Looking back at fanfest I muted the live stream just about every time I had to hear someone drunk speaking, and only tuned in during CCP presentations or when a player gave a good talk. Anyone else have a similar experience? I almost really wish CCP took stronger actions regarding alcohol. Unfortunate because we are all adults, but I guess some people don't know how to self-moderate and when they have had too much.
The restriction would not be placed on the general audience, but just for the folks who will be on stage. Some of the alliance panel and other speakers completely abstained from alcohol before their presentations (hats off to you classy gentlemen), while others did in fact drink but still gave a decent presentation. Let's face it, there were only a couple of folks who couldn't handle their liquor (besides the obvious case, Michael Bolton was also really obnoxious almost every time I had to watch him).
I almost feel this is necessary. Let's face it folks, CCP wants to grow as a company and make this game so much more expansive and immersive than it already is. To do this, it needs to partner up with others and share infrastructure and strategy; exactly the type of partnertship CCP has with Sony. To do this, CCP needs to demonstrate its a mature group and can actually accomplish something with having a dramatic community meltdown every 8 months.
Again, idealy this sort of action would not be needed, but a few did really ruin the open alcohol experience and this fanfest was considerably lame during some parts because of drunken antics. |

I am not the one trying to dictate to people how they should live their lives. If you want to go present sober at the Party at the Top of the World; feel free. But why enforce your moral code on everyone else? |

So basically you read my thread, made up an unrelated story loosely related to my post, and then based your response off of the imaginary story you created. Congratulations to you sir |

There is a difference between a position of responsibility and attending a social function where you can relax and enjoy yourself in the manner you choose. Even Microsoft Teched has a party, good times and fun for all. Our office has regular social events, drinks in the office after 4pm and a "whatever goes" policy. We, with a small team, manage to support large corporates, run efficiently and have fun doing so.
You need to lighten up and realise that everyone is not like you, nor do they want to be and nor should they be. |

More accurately - I read your bad post. Then trolled you, for trying to dictate how the presenters should behave and now I'm having a laugh at you trying to spin your control tendencies as me being wrong. It is hilarious. Excuse me while I go pour a drink. And damn, it's only 11am. |

Yes, every workplace does social events like that. Does your office regularly stream all of their events for the world to witness and judge you upon? |

Nobody would be interested in watching a bunch of business analysts, business intelligence consultants, developers and such like drink. Or maybe somebody would. I've not considered the options on streaming it for money and advertising. Do you think there is an opportunity there?
I mean, I paid a PLEX for the HD stream to Fanfest. Would you pay a PLEX to watch me enjoy my job and company of my peers and perhaps learn a little bit about what we do? |
