Edited by: Irulan S''Dijana on 09/10/2008 23:12:33 Amarr does not deal in heathen Kin and exp damage (unless you use drones).
The upside is lasers have such high raw base DPS compared to other weapons it goes some way to balancing it out.
If you really much use drones, use the arbitrator and it's T2 variants are drone ships, and the Amarr BS can also fit a few drones. But none of the guns will do kin/exp (unless you fit unclean minmatar guns on our glorious golden hulls.

In all cases, the gripe regarding Amarr EM/Therm reliance would be fitting in the past.
Not until CCP tweaked EM and Explo resistances across the board, making the normally Therm/Kin PvP world more diverse, and giving the Amarr a leg up in the world.
I trained for Amarr from Caldari for a reason in the past, which is to benefit from a possible Amarr boost once I hit T2. Now that I am flying T2 Amarr, I am now enjoying the benefits 10fold.
If you are worried about the lack of damage type diversity, dont. Many people in PvP either omni (resists across the board) or buffer (pure effective HP) tank anyway, making any form of damage diversity moot.
If you STILL want to be diverse in your damage types, skill drones. An Armageddon with T2 heavies is a monster. -

Minmatar T2 ships have ~80-90% base resists to EM and good base resists to thermal, lazors suck against them.

As a general rule, for PvE you don't need to wrooy unless you go into Minmatar space, and for PvP lasers do enough raw damage where the limited damage types are no worse than anyone else.
Just remember, ALL races have limits on damage types - Amarr EM/thermal, Gallente/Caldari are kin/therm, and Minmatar are Explosive/Kin, with some EM in the short-range stuff. Missiles can do ALL damage types, but only one at at a time - each missile only does one type of damage.
So, there IS no omni-weapon in EvE. That being said, you can approximate it in a Amarr BS by using combinations of weapons and drones - imagine dealing EM/Therm, and having your drones do Kin/Exp - thre's your ombi-damage. It'll be gimped in most places though - better to stick with one type and maximize it, to overcome resistances with sheer DPS. |

Just adding my support to the general consensus in this thread. Unless you know your opponent is fitting specifically EM and Thermal hardeners, the damage types of lasers is fine. While you are hitting the highest base resistances on armour, you're hitting the lowest on shields and will roast them in short practice. Plus, for every armour tanker you encounter that fits EANMs (thus keeping EM as his highest resist), you'll find another than fits thermic, kinetic and explosive hardeners - thus leaving EM as his lowest resist, and you'll do more actual damage with lasers than anything else.
So in practice - the damage types aren't a problem. In fact, when I have just one launcher to load up for supplementary damage in PvP, I'll often fit EM missiles into it as it's just a good all-round damage type.
