What say you?
1 system to rule them all? You login, fit a ship (1 isk per item, skill dependent [skills from Tranq]), undock, and engage at will? No teams. Every man for himself. Always updated with the current Tranq settings.
No, not like SiSi. Just ... Deathmatch. You get podded, you respawn in station (no need to update clone), fit a new ship, undock, rinse, repeat.

I'm sorry that the servers only support Team Deathmatch without Autobalancing.

You would be out of a job though Chribba. Veldspar wouldn't even have a reasonable market price and therefor not worth mining.

I don't see any need to turn EVE into Unreal Tournament in space. It is a game that has depth, consequences, unfairness, a vibrant economy, and somewhere in there even a small portion (I said modi.c.u.m. but that contains a bad word!) of social interaction. Getting rid of all that seems rather silly.
I could see amusement value in an entirely separate server dedicated to UT in space, everyone gets free ships & goods, all skills, and just fights each other - but I'm not sure we'd gain from it...
Then again, I don't know what people gain from playing Unreal Tournament multiplayer, so perhaps I'm the wrong target audience... |

Edited by: Milaahs Nithori on 10/10/2008 11:23:29 Second the above post. Sorry, but please no. That is missing the whole essence of what makes EVE a good game. Meaningful player interaction through a true player-based free market economy with meaningful pvp with consequences. Anything remotly like a battleground would actually ruin the game. You have to create your own thrills, but in the end you are getting so much more back for making your own fun in eve than you can ever do grinding pvp in other games.
What is it that makes pvp so damned hollow and brimming with idiots in games like wow? Yeah, that's right, battlegrounds with cheap, easy thrills and enough epics for you and your family as long as you grind it like it was your second job. And the apperant lack of will from blizzard's side to create meaningful world pvp... or just their lack of understanding for what creates a good pvp environment.
Want fast and easy pvp? Make a corporation called "Ring of Blood Inc.", recruit based on your idea. Find a nice place somewhere to set up a home. It could even be in 0.0. Let people finance the fun themselves first, but after a while you can have an entire production wing making all types of T1 ships and modules that the corporation members can use free of charge. Arrange pvp matches with different kinds of objectives every day in set systems, or just make it a deathmatch tournement. It wont take long before you recruit someone with enough skills to make an online ladder system. This is just basics.. it's EVE, players come up with new ideas all the time. Like the industrial deathmatch idea a few posts above... brilliant.

Each to their own I suppose, but given the way EVE combat is, a 24/7 free-for-all seems anything but an interesting concept. In an FPS like UT or BF2 for example you can at least make a difference with personal skill, but in an EVE fight working solo against multiple targets? Not really, beyond knowing the basics of the game. It's my main gripe with PVP in every MMO I've played. Random number generators, gear/fittings, class/ship type all end up mattering more than skill (again, as long as you're not completely clueless) when locked down in a fight. After all EVE indeed is rock/paper/scissors, and you don't need that much skill for that either. Same goes for most MMOs. It's very, VERY annoying.
So because of that team-based stuff is the only way to have any really sensible PVP in MMOs, and that's why every-man-for-himself brawls hold little appeal to me.
You can be the best EVE pilot and PVPer ever, but your T1 cruiser will still die to three enemy T1 cruisers half your skill unless they're afk, totally new or unfitted.
You can be the best WoW PVPer ever, but your lvl 70 warlock will still die to three other reasonably gearead lvl 70 warlocks of half your skill unless they're afk.
In the meanwhile you can be the best Battlefield 2 player ever and win solo against three other good players with the same kit or even a less suitable kit just because skill is the primary factor above all other considerations.
You can disagree of course, but so far my observation has held true for EVE, WAR, AoC and WoW. Single exceptions can happen in a rare fight, but it's just the RNG at work in the favor of the underdog in most of those cases or something overpowered (like a nanolamer vs 3 blaster boats, yay - though this is also part of the r/p/s element). I know for myself that I've killed whole squads alone in BF2 with just good use of terrain and timing. It's just not something that's really possible in MMOs, and that annoys me to no end.
Oh, and to get back to the original suggestion - fit a new ship each time eh? Have fun spending 90% of your time fitting a ship even while knowing that whatever you fit you'll die horribly and won't have any noticeable effect on the fighting going on outside.

This idea is not that bad after all, but you dont need another server to this. Just create a new type of contract that allows engagement everywhere in the galaxy. Would also solve the "can drop phishing" problem.

Dont like the idea of deathmatch or tournament style spaces.. Kind of misses the point of eve. But how about an eve-simulator. An in-station mini-game style thing.
Lets you try fittings and ships against computer simulated opponents that you get to fit.
A chance to try new tactics, fittings and ships before actually buying stuff, or loosing it when you dont understand how it really works. Yes it'll miss that human unpredictabilty but gives a chance to learn.
Cant tell me that given the tech we're supposed to be flying around in, there wouldnt be a pod-pilot training program?
First time I typed this it sounded really cool, but think ive lost the will now!!

No, see you guys are totally misunderstanding the OP.
What he means is that we should have servers have deathmatches against each other. TQ1 vs Sisi. The loser explodes for real, possibly injuring or killing CCP staff (who would just happen to be going about their business.)
If you wanted to simulate it, everybody should swarm Jita and start shooting in the direction of Rens. I bet you could bust a few blades, at least. |
