Ok, I have Amarr BS 5 and Caldari BS 4 with no intention of getting Caldari BS 5. Both armor and shield skills are maxed and have Large Beam and Pulse at 4. Is there a clear choice? |

Nightmare rocks, tho Paladin can loot and salvage whilst missioning.

Other issue is if u have shield skills. If not, then Paladin cuts down on training time.

Nightmare gets the tracking bonus, with tach's it tracks real well.

If you are going to loot and salvage anything, paladin is better. If youre not, its not much difference.

tractor beam bonus is nice if you have to pick up mission stuff (like prisoners at rogue slave traders). though you will need implants to fit a paladin... don't have nightmare nor raven, so don't know what is better. but i love my paladin (i run it with two tracing computers)

When you say implants, you mean just something like the 3% or 5% turret CPU implant? or something more extensive? The Nightmare looks sexy, just wasn't sure if there was much difference in running missions with them (aside from the obvious armor tank vs shield tank).
Also, above I edited my question. Left Spec off my skills for guns :).

if you want to fit 4 tachs and deadspace repper you need 5% pg implant (or pg rigs, but then you might be a bit tight on cap)

Similar question. I have Amarr BS5 and Caldari BS4. Laser skills will come eventually, and shield and armour tanking skills are pretty much identical. I plan on running the mission then salvaging later in salvacane. Should I get Paladin or Nightmare?

One thing taht's made me curious tho, how will this affect the fact that they only do em and therm dmg, doing for example mercs or gurista, is the dmg so high taht it doesn't make any difference? --------------------

Well, just to compare, I have most missile skills to level 4 (rapid launch at 5) and I can do Angel/Merc missions faster in my Abaddon than in a Raven. That's vs large Spec 4 lasers and all Turret support skills at level 5. So yeah, even though the damage type isn't optimal, the massive damage it throws out makes up for it.

it's slower. But you still do thermal. so you will still do a fair amount of dmg

slower vs angels and guristas...for everything else a nightmare is faster and eaiser to run optimally.

if you want to loot/salvage at all a paladin wins by a lot, 40km double speed tractor beams. blowing stuff up and tractorbeaming wrecks at the same time will be way faster than trying to use 20km tractors on a cane. although I would use a destroyer/bc to come back and salvage everything, 8x salvagers + wreck blob = ftw
if you don't care about loot/salvage then go with whatever your skills are better suited to.

level 4 mission npcs harly go above tach tracking with a tracking comp + tracking speed script anyways, if they do then they are in web range. paladin gets some shibby 99% webs

I've tried both paladin and nightmare, personally I like nightmare more. Shield tanking in missions is better than armor tank. I have a full set of centus x type large repairer and armor hardeners. Compare that to my pith a type shield hardeners and gist x type xl shield booster, shield tank is just much easier. There is simply no fitting issue or cap issue. When you go do angel extravaganza bonus or aggro WC both sides at same time, armor tanking become rather chancy where shield tanking wouldn't.
As for tractor beam bonus, I really don't think it matters much since I don't really loot while doing the mission anyway. If you got caldari/amarr bs skills along with good shield skills, then Nightmare should be your choice.
