i think this lays the old Vent vs TS battle to rest. It also explains why Eve VOIP works so well. This is the way forward people.
and discuss......

Very interesting. But TBH, until it is a completely seperate process from the client, it will not surpass TS or Vent. Please resize image to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 bytes. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

The EVE Voice service does not use TeamSpeak technology. We are partnered with Vivox to provide the voip communications functions in EVE Online and continue to work very closely with them to enhance and improve the voice comms functionality. |

Agreed, however did you read the full blog? The working routines that power Eve Voip are the same that will power TS3. and we all know the Guality/Lag ratio we get from Eve voip. it kicks the arse out of TS2 and Vent |

Not really. One of the things I am in charge of managing is the EVE Voice project and we are definitely continuing to work with Vivox on new features for EVE. Vivox has proven that they are willing and able to make sometimes drastic changes to their SDK's in order to integrate more effectively with EVE Online (the fleet voice comms features are one example of this). Perhaps the blog is referring to Vendetta Online? If I recall they launched back in 2004. |

This is a major point, as well as a flaw from a game designer point of view. EVE tried to charge for voice initially, WoW didn't but noone uses that feature anyway, etc. It's a service companies want to provide their customers, nevertheless.
Having a separate process from the client is beneficial from a number of reasons. Personally I run my TS/Vent on a separate PC even, which makes ingame voice even worse for me as I got my mic etc on the other pc.
There's a number of other issues atm with EVE voice, one being how the sound is treated by the client. There's no good way of tweaking the volume individually, something vent does better than TS. Codecs affect TS/Vent and make one of them better for different players (TS working better for me, Vent for some others, etc). Ingame voice don't give this option and thus really needs the option to tweak players voice individually.
Another being how we can pull music/UI sound to 0.0 while having voice at 10.0, and we still have to untick "audio enabled" or we'll have the station/space ambience/sound in the background. This makes it very hard to tweak things for those of us that are in space. If I have multiple clients running and one of them want to hear gate/cloak activations, I won't hear voice because the annoying background sound keeps going.
All in all it's a nice feature, and I'm sure CCP and other game companies want to provide it, but it needs alot of work before it's even near to compete with Vent/TS. And really, when it comes to the point that it is easy to tweak it around, it should be released as a separate client. There's many situations where you want the sound to separate from the game itself, not to mention when you run multiple clients, and what about when you are in fleets and the node crash/you CTD and thus lose voice as well? etc. In those situations voice-in-game-client is really a horrible option, and always will be.
TL;DR, I agree with Straight Chillen. |

You may be wrong about TS3 being the backend software used to power EVE Voice but Whooo! GO EVE VOICE! It Rocks! |

Quote: One exciting, new thing about the SDK situation is that one of the companies we have been working with has actually released their game with TS3 technology fully integrated. The game itself has been around since 2004 and is a very entertaining, action-oriented space MMORPG. Additional details and relevant press releases should be out soon after this devblog is published.
No company is named, no game is named, EVE's been around since 2003.
Besides, why does this matter? It lays nothing to rest, people can and should use what works best for them.

All I know is I can join VENT or TS no matter how slow my connection is at that time.
If I'm using eve voice, its a shot in the dark when I log in that the "Join audio" function is even going to start up.
I shouldn't have to relog 5 times just to get a voice client working.
