If I had a tower anchored with several active modules, would I be able to unanchor the tower and anchor down the new one? |

Nope you have to offline and unanchor every module before you can do the control tower last. Then replace the tower and re-anchor and online everything.
A right royal pain in the ass. --

Congratulations, you have discovered the worst thing that you can be subjected to in this game.

Nope the worst thing is having to travel 100 odd jumps through 0.0 into empire becuase u cant contract a ship due to damaged crystals in it. I tried to petition it but noo he wrote be a long e-mail saying how it would be unfair because clearly removing the crystals from cargo so i can contract the ship is gonna give me a serious tactical advantage.
At least after switiching POS you feel youve gained somthing, and not kicking yourself every jump that you should of emptied your cargo. /rant off

If you think traveling 100 jumps is bad compared to unachoring a tower (especially one with many moon mining mods which take 30m each to unanchor), only to put it back up (probably close to 8h total), you clearly have never done it.

OMFG i had to do this so many times.
My advice is just leave it there, You could make the money for a new one in the time it takes to unancor re-ancor a pos.

I once did it to tower with approx 50 mods anchored. At least with moon miners u can go afk for 30 min. Mine was mostly weaponry, so click every 4 - 5 mins. Yeah - it was full day (~16 h total) job to get everything off and then back again. I was very close quitting EVE after that experience. Just did a few week break after that tho instead of quitting

No one that's un-anchored a fully fitted POS and replaced it again would ever say that :p
100 jumps is nothing in comparison.

I once did 100j roundtrip in freighter in a day. Before WTZ using instas. Tho it was thru hi sec it was almost as bad as swithing fully equipped pos tower. But yeah - regular ship in 0.0, pfft. It's always possibility to clonejump or go in small fast ship.

Kinda off-topic, but...
I refueled my POS and topped it off, and when I logged back in and warped to the POS with some mods out of the local station to anchor, the POS wasn't at my bookmark, it was at another moon. The next moon down on the list actually. Thing is though, this specific POS is one of my research POSes in high sec space with labs, and those labs are at my bookmark for the POS, and they are online without a tower. They won't offline either. Just a bug? WTF is going on? |

That sounds like pretty serious POS hiccup. Sure beats my oddest happening where I had MWD after my tower to actually anchor it once, as it was speeding away from me at high speeds
Would suggest both bugreporting and petitioning if the problem is still there after you try relogging.

Au contraire, that is the second worst thing to which one can be subjected in Eve. As every experienced POS manager knows, the first worst thing is exactly the same as the second, but with the wrinkle of a corporate hangar array module which refuses to unanchor, and which one has to petition (taking possibly days...) to have unanchored.

See, the first time I did this. I petitioned and just logged off. When they got around to answering it, the nice GM told me to petition stuck for that next time. And the next dozen times I had it happen I petitioned stuck, and it was fixed within 15 minutes tops. Usually more like 5 minutes.

The first time it happened to us, it took a day to get a response (which we thought was not so bad). We directors then threatened great bodily harm on the next character to put a bookmark in the corporate hangar arrays, which will hopefully prevent us ever having a second occurrence.

Returning to the original topic, the easiest way to avoid having to do all this is only put up large towers in the first place --
