I solo'ed for almost 18 months in my one-man corp. Strictly speaking, I *could* and *did* call upon help when overwhelmed or was asked by others to join their roaming gangs but it was never a definite thing. I died a lot, at least earlier on.
50% - 75% of my kills were solo.
I then joined Black-Flag and then The Bastards. Solo work is hard and recommend everyone try it. Get into a rifter and go!
Right now, Kane Rizzel is the solo pirate that I can think of. He still yarrs and kills and is doing well thank you very much. Not sure how long he has been solo.

Been flying pretty much exclusively solo since I started PvP'ing 1.5 years ago or so.
Omen -> Prophecy -> Brutix -> Hurricane.. and stuch here
Over that time I've been in gangs like 3.. or 4(?) times
Well, what can I say? I started soloing because of the uncomfortable timezone(GMT+6), after some time it got quite addictive Can't really imagine myself being a regular member of all kinds of gangs.. not really mine type of thing.
As for what keeps me playing solo - it's a drive on how far can you get - the extremes you can push yourself into And the satisfaction you get when you're defeating outnumbering forces or winning fights you shouldn't have won

About 50% of my kills are solo, still like to fly out the Rax and the Mega solo, bit oldschool today but well, keep dooing it because it is still fun.
Think about 9 Month for me to, since I left my corp after not realy having fun in 0.0 roaming Gangs and returned back to Low Sec PVP on a regular basis for the solo or small Gang action there.

Been soloing alot and it's is for me as a vacation really, just have to think about myself and can relax abit not having to be online alot as you do when you are leading a corp. However it gets boring eventually and you want to get back to "work", but it is a good motivation raiser.

I'm pretty much always solo unless I want to test something like ECM on FW ***s or when Agony is running a basic frig course.

I've been soloing for a very long time. Null space, lowsec, and empire wars, I do it all.
I originally started soloing because I felt it would make me a better pilot pvpwise. A solo pilot can operate in a gang no problem, but a pilot used to being in a gang cannot necessarily solo. I figure the best way to be at the top of a km is to be the only one on the km, other than the vic ofc.
I like the nomadic lifestyle, no committments, no hassles with corp politics or mandatory ops or worse yet meetings.

Edited by: Cheyenne Shadowborn on 15/10/2008 09:25:16 Flying solo in Eve since 2/2006 (i.e. when I started playing).
What keeps me?
- can't be arsed to wait for other ppl ("I'm just 5 jumps out" when its 57 ...) - deep dislike for constantly being on TS/Vent/whatever - someone once said Eve is very hard when solo'ed, so I want to win Eve in the one honest way - by taking over the entire galaxy as a solo pilot
Not saying that solo play is any good though, can't find a 1 vs 1 fight EVER ...
I chat a lot with ppl but I rarely fly with anyone. --

Im totally on board with the music thing.
Nothing like alittle Vivaldi or Strauss when in combat (theme from 2001)
Other scale good to have alittle electronica.

I like pvping solo getting the kills solo is much better than being in a group more glory for you.

Come to Thelan, and ask for it, me and my corp never break word on 1vs1.
Most of our fight is 1vs1 after asking for it!
And sorry for my bad spelling :)

I'm a big fan of solo roaming for many of the reasons already listed above. The biggest reason for me is that I can't block out the real world for hours on end (wife + job + etc...) and like the flexibility of just logging / docking / safeing up whenever I feel like it without adversely affecting others. I also don't like having to talk constantly or listen constantly on voice comms -- something best done in moderation.
That said, I -do- enjoy small gang PvP and chatting with people from time to time. I can even stand the occasional large fleet system camping, though only once every few months or so
I'd have to say about 80% of my play is solo PvP these days. It's fun, it's convenient, and so far I haven't gone broke getting blobbed to death. I've been doing it for the last ~3-4 months and will probably continue with it. I can't see myself going 100% solo, as I enjoy the corp(s) I'm in, but flying solo is simply easier and more fun for me at the moment.

Originally by: kessah BTW if you have a single account then by all means dont fly battleships solo. Battleship combat solo requires an alt.
i do this because i dont feel like buying another account and ive spent all my time training battleships. The only real kills i get are fat battlecruisers. anytime i face a battleship, they always have backup. a lot of backup. usually falcons/rooks. what i try to do though is to pretend im an afk noob and i let people fire at me so i have gate guns on my side. sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesnt really matter. this isnt a single account/solo game :(
