Since this is obviously the most spread typo in the world of EVE, and many people have English as second language and may not know this (thus the error keeps on propagating itself), I felt compelled to state that:
HANGAR = a covered and usually enclosed area for housing aircraft
HANGER = a device by which or to which something is hung or hangs
So definitely, the correct spelling is hangAr... unless you are fond of hanging your ships to the wall.

If you wish to criticise people on their spelling and punctuation, may I be so kind as to tell you that you do not use capital letters in the middle of a word, e.g. hangAr

It was never my intention to criticize anyone, so I am sorry if I did. I just see that typo over and over on the boards and in-game, and wanted to make the point as many people may not know "hanger" is the wrong word to use.
As for the "A", yes, I am aware you don't spell with a capital in between, but also thought it might help in distingushing hangar from hanger in the heading.

I was afraid this was going to happen and I was going to get flamed.
Again, I am not a spelling zealot... God knows we all make mistakes when typing.
My only point was to stress the difference between hangar and hanger, not because it is a typo, but because a lot of people are using it incorrectly without realizing it, and the error keeps on propagating.
Anyway... English is not even my mother tongue, so why should I care if it gets trounced?

I think the misspelling or rogue as rouge might top that even. "Rouge spear", "Rouge Squadrone" etc etc. This is one that really annoys me for some obscure reason.

My favorite is the in-game pop up window that tells you if you "loose" your ship.
Which makes me wonder how one does that. Perhaps not tying it to the hangEr well enough?

Apologies for the spotter in me;
I work in aviation, and you would be surprised by how many people, pilots, technicians, groundcrew etc make the same mistake. I even ordered some signs for my hangar, and when they arrived they were spelled incorrectly, ie: hanger.
Maybe this desensitizes me to this error, but I get more wound up by the lose/loose speeling misteaks.

(note: I can not spell without MS word and type even worse)
you want to see some really interesting spellings get into a chat channel populated by 10 brits and 10 americans as ask them to argue about weather it is spelled: Armour or Armor...
Couldn't help myself.. had to add that. Misspelling do not annoy me simply because I never notice. I am a horrable speller!

If i could be bothered to check, i would find a reference, but i am pretty sure that when a person is executed/commits suicide they are "hanged", not "hung"...
Of course, being hung or even better, well hung, has a totally different meaning
This highlights perfectly what a strange language English is, praise the maker I learnt it as a child.
I continue to be constantly amazed by the non-native speakers in Eve, by their ability to type in English so fast and coherently. I wish i had the same ability in other languages.

I like to keep my ships in my hanger...err...hangar two...umm...to...err...too! 
The words sound the same but are spelled differently. It gets confusing for some folks sometimes. The key is the context in which they are used.
Take the word "read" (red) as in "Read any good books lately?" Or "read" (reed) as in "I like to read books." Same spelling, but they sound different.
Words can be so confusing sometimes.
