No offense, but 30+ pages of thread is a bit much to go through for some information that might not even be in there. So, if possible, please have somebody who knows answer it here -OR- at least have CCP Fallout edit his OP with details.
The question is quite simple : HOW EXACTLY is the cessation of skilltraining going to be introduced ?
In other words, if I have an inactive account now with a 40-day skill started hours before account lapsed, a skill that will still have 7 days to go on the DT of October 15th - when I activate the account, do I still have 40 days to go, or just 7 days to go ? Also, for accounts that lapse past that date - does the skill just get cancelled and whatever SP I have gathered up to this point remain, or does the skill get cancelled and all SP gained is lost ?

I don't care if they lock it as long as Fallout edits his OP with additional details. Thread is 33+ pages now (in a matter of minutes from 30 pages), you can't seriously expect people to sift through all that for dev replies just to get some pretty important info.

Somewhere after page 25 but before page 30, Wrangler said there will be a "real" dev blog coming out on the subject real soon. To explain in better detail.

Indeed a PanicBlog.
Apparently Customer Relations over at CCP often fails, and counts their chicks before they hatch. How could they not think that such a vague annoucement from CCP Fallout would not incite a huge rabble rabble fest? Should not this alluded to dev blog by Wrangler been what was posted in the first place?
Honestly I miss the days when Kieron was around, he at least understood such things.

Believe it or not, my account has always been active. I have never "ghost trained".
I have, however used the concept of "ghost training" to convince a lot of RL friends who are busy professionals with families into playing eve because the feel that they dont get punished for having a RL with eve, because of "features" like "Ghost Skilling". --

Well, let's just say plenty of people (ab)used this "feature", and they'd like to know.
IF it's indeed a cutoff (i.e. lose all you gained so far if inactive), then GTC sellers should be happy - these two days will be an EXPLOSION of prices upwards. If it's just a "cancel training and keep whatever you have up till then", there will still be a surge in prices, but not quite as dramatic.
Either way, GTC sellers rejoice ...and people I know that use this method, time to panic

Almost the same here. My main has always been active (or, believe it or not, inactive with no skill in training), BUT I have abused the feature on occasion for my alt.
And again, same here, have used this "feature" as a MAJOR "selling point" to people I know that were reluctant to play an online game of massive proportions in the first place.
Suffice to say, I have several people who are kind of angry/panicky now and cry for answers, and I believe I'm not the only person in this situation.

Im reall not surpriesed with the changes this clueless changes this company makes im not surprised about this one. I guess Iceland is full of ******s who have no business sense. Iceland the land of idiots and one stupid game company.
Maldad Asesino Posted - 2008.10.13 18:46:00 - [1] This poor excuse of an explanation.
"This practice upsets the balance of the game, and capsuleers who actively put their time and energy into working on their characters will no longer be unfairly affected by those few who have not."
Is this the thing you see people /emoragequit over on the forums. That some people who had their time with EVE could get a nice incentive to pick up the game again?
This obviously isn't the case. Money is the case and if you would had been honest with it, fine. You're still screwing yourself over but at least with some dignity. And announcing this 2 days prior is just beyond my comprehension of stupidity.
If it wasn't for my one time ghost training getting cruiser lvl5 I probably never would have come back and paid for my two accounts for almost 4 years.

So you announce a HUGE thing like this 2 days in advance AND don't even have a devblog NOR do you give precise details on how it's going to be done ? I think this spells "PR fudged it"
P.S. Yeah, devblog will probably come up on the 16th

Whoa, chill. If you want to whine about how unfair this change is, add it to the (now 41+ pages long) thread over in EIP.
This is just a thread asking for a simple clarification on how exactly this change will be implemented.
As soon as answer is given, PREFERABLY as either an edit of the OP in EIP *or* that devblog, and PREFERABLY before the 15th, feel free to lock the thread.

I would guess the way this is implemented is that skill points stop clocking up on inactive accounts after DT on the 15th.

I bet it's going to be introduced very simply:
You log on and check how many skillpoints you have, and the server calculates it based on when you started vs the moment your account went inactive (instead of the way it is now, based on when you started vs. the present).
The server doesn't count your SP one by one. The server just calculates how much time has passed, and sends an update to the client.

All will be anounced in the new dev blog "Fat Cats Rejoice (or how to stop worrying and love the bomb(ing Iceland economy))" by CCP I has all your Iskies.
Seriously though I have only ever benefited mildy from this feature on this account my mains skills have almost all be down while paid up as I usually forget to set long skill training when I have unsubbed in the past... the great thing about the occasions that I rememebered too set the skill training was that when I had eve burnout and cancelled because of that it gave me an incentive to come back and try out ooh shiny new toy to play with... now CCP don't have anything to lure me back with tbh and this time when this account goes inactiv I doubt I will ever resub.
And no you can't have my stuff.
CCP Atropos > sigh it's simple really when it becomes the de facto method for fighting it needs ot be nerfed simple as really - WTF? l |

The logical answer is 7 days, Akita T. The way skill training works is that you can stop training at any time and you never lose skillpoints.
There is no real "cancel skill" button. There is a pause skill button and as long as I have been playing, CCP hasn't ever retroactively punished people so I am almost certain your current ghost skilling sps are safe. --

Your post makes me think you are confused about the change they are implementing. They are not making a change so that you have to be logged on in order to get SPs, or so that you have to log on any more than is required to change skills. As long as your account is active (you are paying for the game), your training will continue as it does now. Only people who cancel their accounts (often for the purpose of training long skills on the cheap while playing on a different account) will be affected.
I don't see the reason for the fuss. And as to the OP, my guess would be this: once the change is implemented, the server will simply scan through the list of accounts, and de-select any skill in training on accounts that are no longer active, as though the player turning off skill training.
(That's only a guess though; but I think that would be the simplest, cleanest way to make the change.)

Ironically, my dread alt-in-training finishes his skill (Jump Cal V) just before DT on the 15th. My T2 crystal ball scores again.
Of course, it's moot as I won't be re-subbing him, since the ú-cost of training him just doubled.
