Yes, it will. In fact it worked on the last Macbooks too, which had the GMA3100. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

Sshhh... if they say it supports they have to make it work. Now that macbooks work or don't work (bugsy) they can always say it's not supported and don't have to worry about those bugs. Marvellous idea though.
"My client crashed on my macbook?" "but we don't support it." "My ships fly in circles and get stuck?" "but we don't support it" "I can't connect to eve and i want to!" "but we don't support it"

Someone needs to buy one, install EVE on it and then report back here (and I'm all out of money so it won't be me ), so maybe, who knows, could be, could be not, probably, but will it be supported by CCP? Now thats the question.

A person in my family is planning to buy the new 13 inch MacBook. If they get it soon I'll ninja it and test eve on it.

why should the new Macbook dont work with EvE-Online. The new Nvidia Grafics is not the fastest, but support all the gimmicks eve needs.

Yeah, but Eve does run on a old macbook too, but it's not just supported (ok, the running is horrible, but it runs!). It's not always just about the hardware.

I just got the highend Macbook today. Just using the client (skills, and chat) it's perfectly fine. It runs about as smooth as it does on my iMac. I don't think the multi-clienting will be possible on it, though. After work tonight, I'll try a Lvl 4 and give you guys a trip report. For those who care about FPS, I get an average of 45 in station and 36 in space.

I just played around with EVE at my local Apple store and left disappointed. The new MacBook is roughly the same fps as my current MacBook (Intel GMA x3100), and the Pro is like Andrew said.

Well, I've done two missions. I know it's not a good benchmark for eve, but it does put some stress on the gpu. The first one, I had all the default effects on. The game was playable, even under heavy fire. Averging 14-25 fps. The next mission was with effects off, how I play on my iMac, from 19 to 25 fps; still very playable. In both instances, the fps dropped with lots of targets (naturally), and when targeting back. This is on the 2.4 MacBook, with no additional ram added.
As a bonus, all the trackpad gestures work in eve.

I just picked up a 2.5ghz 15" Macbook Pro today, and once I'm installed and have run a couple missions, etc. I'll report how EVE runs on the Pro.

That's probably 4 GB of RAM.
One thing that you early adopters of the MacBook Pro should specify is if you are using the faster 9600M-GT or the embedded 9400M GPU mode.
The 9600M-GT GPU mode of the pro is something that will be officially supported no matter what. But the 9400M GPU mode of the MacBook Pro and the MacBook (non Pro) may slip to "non officially supported" even if, on paper, they should have more than sufficient power to run EvE.

After playing with the systems a bit more, I thought I should clarify my post. The mac client on the new MacBook 2.0 (9400m) runs around the same speed as the windows client on my previous gen MacBook 2.0 (GMA x3100). That makes it (relatively) playable, but not as good as I hoped. Performance is around 25-35 fps in space, dropping to roughly 12-25 near stations / asteroid belts.
Compared to the MacBook 2.0 (9400m), the speed increase for the MacBook Pro 2.4 (9600m) is more in line with the CPU difference (20%) than the expected video card difference (200%+). Somewhere around 30-40 fps in space, dropping to roughly 20-30 near stations / asteroid belts. And yes, I used the 9600m chip, not the 9400m.
That said, this post on the Hard|OCP forum indicates the MacBook 2.0 (9400m) should be fine with even the premium client in boot camp:
Quote: We're getting 40 FPS on EVE in the Jita Solar System (outside of Dock) with everything but HDR on @ 1280x800

I have the new high end 15" MBP, not impressed on the graphic side of things I'm getting the same frame rate as my iMac from 2 years ago. on missions the Nebulous gases that I fly through are coming out really weird. I'll post a link to an image of what it looks like when I get back to my hotel after work.

Greetings. I have a new MacBook 2.0Ghz, 2GB of RAM and with the 9400M. Eve runs pretty darn good. From the short time that I have run it, its been fine. I have not done any missions or anything with a lot of ships on the screen. For most tasks it should be just fine.
Remember: YMMV
Peace

Why no new 17"? I was thinking on upgrading from my old 15 to this around january to the 17 just for eve and gaming. Is this a sign the 17s are doomed?

According to rumors it will be upgraded in january. And according to people's hope it will retain the non-reflective screen (I planned to buy two MacBook Pros, but I will not. Reason being the glossy screen makes them almost unusable). ---

I haven't been having to many issues with the glass screen on my 15" in soft light environments, or in the dark. I found that I have to manually which which graphics chip that I want to use with me having to log back on for the change to take place but with either graphics chip I'm getting terrible frame rates. and I have just installed the latest patch for eve.

I'm getting 60-70 fps with the premium client on "high" without HDR (high 40s with HDR ) on my new MBP 2.53 in bootcamp. That's roughly in line with my (admittedly older) ATI 4850 desktop PC. I'm not going to bother with the Mac client. Regardless, this has the potential to be the best computer I ever bought... |

When Apple's laptops get a major refresh, as they did this month, the 17-inch often lags behind the 15-inch, so it's nothing to get worried about. Apple seems to use the more popular 15-inch model as the "shakedown" model to make sure they get the 17-inch right the first time.
I say that only mildly conceited, as I love my 17-inch MBP sooo much. ;) |

Yep. And the 17" will probably get updated sometimes in january. The cinema displays are also long due an update.
But I'm praying all gods I ever heard of that they DO NOT switch to the unusable glossy displays.
If they do that for the MacBoo Pro 17", we'll buy three (or more) of the current models, before they completely disappear. As for the cinema displays ... it's a pity, but we'll switch to the Eizos.

Just tested. New Aluminium MacBook (no-pro) works with EVE and at least I got up 100 - 200% better frame rates compared to my previous unsupported Macbook. Plus did not see any of the recent problems ppl have been having with the Mac client (but I was not using windowed mode). Of course yesterday I was having connection problems as any one else. I was happy with the 15-20 fps I had before, but 30-60 is even better. Remains to be seen if dropping from 4 GB memory to 2 GB has any effect in more crowded situations. Going to upgrade the memory later anywat at some point. EVE is the only game I have ever played on my Mac and the investment seems worthwhile :)
As a sidenote. I must say that the new Macbook feels like a slick sturdy Mac again. Just now I realised how much I have missed my 12" aluminium Powerbook from years back. The white and black macbooks have just felt flimsy in my hands - like PC's with Apple logo on them :p

I tested Eve on my new aluminum Macbook yesterday - works like a charm, even with 'just' 2GB RAM. |
