Does anyone know how to get at these NPC convoys that I seem to be seeing everywhere outside stations without the sentry guns using you for target practice?
There were 10 NPC indys outside one of the stations I frequent last night but they are not moving anywhere. likewise they are staying within 15k of the station which puts them well within sentry gun range.
If its still possible to hunt NPC convoys with frigates or cruisers I would love to read any advise on the subject "You've Got to be Nuckin Futs!!" |

the way me and a bud of mine were doing it is as follows....
1) he sits out of range of the guns with his BS and uses torps/cruise missiles on anything worth ganking npc convoy wise after scanning them.
2) i sit next to the convoy but NOT ganged with him so i dont get flagged.
3) he blows them up
4) i loot the cans
5) we later divie up the l00t between us later
just remember in .5 and lower the max range (correct me if im wrong) is 175km? and in .5 and up the max range is 300km? in both cases its only one turret with that range if of course im not mistaken.
Anyones welcome to correct me....

The sentry range is somewhat not defined, I think they said something like in 0.5+ the sentryrange is no less then a 150km and no more then 300. In 0.4- the range is no less then 75km and no longer then 150. (dont really remember though).
All I know is that i was sitting in 0.9 a week ago shooting convoys 152km from the closest sentry.

I dont think there are any convoys in low sec (0.4 and lower) so all sentries would have 150 km minimum around them since it is hi sec. ____________ Sex / Rank 9 / SP: 1280 of 2304000

Lots of speculation and not much info here!
In my experience NPC convoys fly in any system that has NPC stations.
Sentries are not even an issue if convoy hunting is done properly!
All the information you could ever need.
Note: Hunting NPC Convoys, while very fun to pop defenceless haulers, is generally a terrible return on isk/time. They don't drop really valuable loot at the moment. -------------------------------------------------- - Suhadi |

My Cruise Missiles go a hell of a lot further than that, I just don't like fitting 4 sensor booster II's to be able to lock that far.

okay my first post, but since a noob this is the only thing i really know. convoys come out in 0.5 to 0.9 when there is more than 1 station always. don't know the rest of space. the reason you always see them 15km away from station is that they havent all gathered, convoys range from 1 ship to 5 ships that i have seen. i attack convoys at the 100km mark and have not been hit by turrets yet. tip though do not go to the station to get ur hauler if the convoy u destroyed was from that station they will leave u in pod. i have worked solo with this and with a teamate in a hauler i would kill them jump to 100km from the next station while partner picked up loot. u will take a faction hit to the corp that owned that convoy my ammar religious corp thingy standing is getting quite bad now. i use a rifter fitted with 2 200mm ac's, small smartbomb, and small nos i have taken a 5 ship convoy this way. at a certain point the convoy will warp away from u so hit at 100km and keep hitting. if they warp the place they are going is in a straight line ahead so warp to 100km from that station and then turn and start heading back when they come out of warp start hitting. as far as loot goes, tobacco, wheat, spi****, hydrogen batteries, slaves, miniature electronics, robotics, stuff like that i get from them. robotics was the best sold for 20k a piece in ammatar space. anyway quantities vary could be like 20 units or over a 1000 units. i have made a couple million doing this nothing major but better than pwning roids 24/7. i lost 1 cruiser and 1 frigate doing this by not paying attention getting pulled in closer than 100km. each convoy ship has 1 laser weapon no good damage. best bet is with a partner in a hauler can fill up the hauler pretty quick dock unload and come back out for some more. if u need anything else convo me ingame im takin a corp mate out tonight or tommorrow some time to show him

The ships have a route.
They go from station A in a system to station B in the same system.
Basically the sentries will fire at you outside station A but not outside station B. At least my Ferox survived, and I was at 40km range from the guns.
So when you see a convoy approaching a station, it should be safe. -----
