You think so? Considering they are already being done by drones :P
Think about it. The drone AI is applied to the missiles. Drones have focus fire, they have follow and orbit features..and they also can accept changes in their target in mid-flight.
The same calculations done by the drones are done by the missiles. That I do not think will melt the servers.
And to the other poster.. yes im aware the game had some similar features, it is why I'd like them back.
Because one race specializes in missiles does not mean it should be an issue. in fact, it will be effectively boosting the other race ships that DO use a missile. The damage added by a single launcher over a turret can be rather big.

The damage falloff needs to be exponential if it's going to be based heavily on signature size. something like:
Damage = base damage * (sig/exp rad) ^ k, where k > 1
Tune k so ship classes one step down will take a noticable less damage than it would from it's own class and ships two classes down would automaticly take very little.
Come to think of it, this might be all it takes since signature size is already somewhat exponential between ship classes. Cruisers 3-4ish times bigger than frigs and BS about 3-3.5 times the size of a cruiser etc...
Or make it cubic (sig)^3/(exp rad)^3 (we're in a 3D space after all). No idea how well that would work out though, may not be steep enough

once upon a time ... the Dominix and other drone ships could field 15 drones at once .... why do you think this was changed to max 5 drones ? --- SIG --- CSM: your support is needed ! |

Ahh btw was just re-reading thread. You will be soloed in inty or properly setup HAC again :) Actually inty vs BS is quite easy now (sader 4tw).
The only advantage for caldari shows up when they come in blob - because then they dont need tacklers at all compared to sniper/close range BS.

I hope the devs grasp that and that a missile will do less dmg vs a ABing ship compared to a mwding ship.
What you are describing is a sig tank. A sig tank may work against missiles and turrets, because a reduced sig directly impacts % of damage on the former, and tracking on the latter (assuming you moving quick enough to out-track, which you should for large ships).
However, it's not a speed tank because it's not quick enough to avoid drones, or even light missiles (let's avoid light missiles because we pretending we are webbing a large ship). So 5 warrior II's pop out, travel 3x quicker than your inty without a web on, and pop you within several seconds.
