In this game, you either have perfect health or are dead. I suppose that the pod is strong enough to protect you even from a missile impact without compromise to your health (that is, until the pod cracks, of course.) On the other hand, you see transport convoys, and different NPCs ships doing several things.
How come there are not "medical" ships?
It's just that there are not medical needs in the Eve space? One of the roleplaying situations I can imagine such a ship could be needed is transporting clones from one station to another. Or seriously injured pilots and agents from one station to another with bigger medical facilities.
These ships could only be NPC ships, like CONCORD ones, of course. Seeing that CCP adds all kind of ships to the game, and that probably new graphic stuff will be added in the next expansion, I realized there are no medical ships (at least that I know of.) I know there are ships with medical facilities, though, but it's not the same thing as having a new ship model
Those could even be added to missions.
Well, just a (probably stupid) thought. ----

There are "medic" class ships in the game, they are called Logistics ships. The name is somewhat misleading, but their job is to repair other ships via shield transporters or remote armor reps.
Also, carriers and moms get bonuses to capital shield and armor reps, so they can be considered capital "medic" ships if they are fitted as such. Also they can fit clone vat bays.
The "medic" class has been adapted to the EVE universe in the form of these ships that use their capacitor to repair other ships, and with a clone vat bay on a capital ship and some remote reps you essentially become a floating hospital.
So yeah, they're already in the game. When logistics get together and work with eachother in fleets they can be a huge help to the gang.

Well, not exactly. Those, as you said, are logistic ships. There are basically transport or combat ships in the game. But not real medical ship. I can envision 2 kinds of medical ships: - A modified shuttle ship for quick transport (kind of an ambulance) - A kind of big medical transport ship to move large quantities of clones and medical material I understand that, being NPC ships those are pretty useless for the player, but could be added to new missions, for example. ----

Edited by: Dyaven on 15/10/2008 22:45:33 What your asking for is to make EVE somewhat more realistic for purely aesthetic purposes, and while I'm not saying it's a bad suggestion, I can assure you it will never happen.

No, not asking CCP for new ships, really. Was more of a rhetorical question, to be honest. And, who knows, it could be useful for the devs in the future if they want to add more missions. ----

Most battleship sized or above would obviously have some sort of medical bay on them Also when i used to play Cyberpunk there was a thing called "broken cards" which was a kind of health insurance, when you got fragged somehow you snapped the computer card in two and a emergency VTOL trauma team would come and help you as well as giving weapons support to drive of those who assaulted you and also to shoot down those who would pray on you trying to steal your valuables, organs and expensive cybernetic implants.
I dunno where i'm going with this...
Star wars had medical ships too.

Well, I've just thought about a possible player use for a medical ship: target a corpse, activate a special tracktor beam, and insta-clone a dead pilot on the spot! Useful in a combat without ships with medical facilities. Pretty overcomplicated, though. ----

No. Once you lose your pod, it takes a snapshot of your mind so that a new clone can be made, and this kills the pilot in the process. Then there's the added effect of the explosion and the vacuum of space. Although if you can manage to bring somebody back to life after that succesfully with no repercussions, gj. You definetely earned that success.

well the question of clone transportation is easy that the data get sent to another cloning bay if you are switching area to clone at, but if you are talking about moving a clone physically ... you have to be the clone to move it so you would be in a pod anyway,
there are alos move that one states of health, i have seen people PVP and come out with the skin of there teeth ( RP prospective the inside of the ship is pretty buggered but you POD is seperate from the ship and you are covered in lime jelly so it doesnt matter
