Never heard of this in the press.
Though I can't imagine it'll be particularly enforceable. I mean really. Time between implementation and time till workaround found...5 minutes?

Edited by: Buy MyStuff on 16/10/2008 09:18:43 Although I'm loathe to go against the inquirer's hard won journalistic credibility and academic rigor, the article is wrong. There was some discussion about it a few months ago, but as far as I'm aware, it was decided that said filtering is unfeasible

$125.8 million wouldn't save nearly as many people if they spent it on their health or education.

Edited by: Micheal Dietrich on 16/10/2008 14:00:07 I was going to read the article but I was immediately distracted by the picture of the lady to the left with the fantastic set of jugs.
Now it's quiet time.

It's ISP level blocking. I foresee a lot of Aussies with their own connection to the internet backbone coming. Bypass the filter completely by effectively becoming your own ISP.
Didn't The Americans try something like this which sparked the Blue Ribbon campaign? After overwhelming protests against censorship, the American government gave up.

You noticed them too, eh?
I must say that I liked this part: "Internet Service Providers have warned that the glorious filter will slow Australian internet speeds down to that of a three-legged dingo dragging a baby up AyersÆ Rock."

Australia has got to be the most schizophrenic country out there. On the one hand: it was colonized by criminals; is home to the deadliest version of almost every creature out there; they love their beer; have Aussie Rules Football, and Rugby; the home of Mad Max; and boobies on TV are apparently no problem.
But on the other hand: video games are the Devil's work, and so is the Internets; and **** on the Internet is almost as bad as video game violence.
It just doesn't make any sense.
