Lately the whole world has experienced a lot of economic turmoil, and Iceland has been hit hard by this development. As a result we have seen a lot of discussions and posts asking how this affects CCP, EVE Online and the Fanfest. Things are better than you might think though, as our CEO, CCP Hellmar, explains in his blog: Born Global!

What about the fact that a lot of people (from the UK anyway) are finding it extremely difficult (if not impossible) to get ahold of real world isk? __________________

I like how he calls Iceland's politicians a bunch of parochial hillbillies (in the nicest possible way, of course).

Has CCP considered to finally take its first open step towards World Domination, and buy up Iceland while the situation is convenient?
Just think about it, you could have 300,000 new employees, and set them to work with just a government decree...

well given the recent money-grab actions from CCP (GTC change, ghost training change, Power of 2 promotion) I guess this does play a minor role ...
anyway I'd think you would just ignore any of these ... I mean I am not interested about hearing "global financial crisis" on every corner, even in the game I play to relax ... --- SIG --- CSM: your support is needed ! |

Great Devblog Hellmar!
But where is Oveur????
Honestly, you cant stay in that beer cellar forever! Get up man, and write us a decent devblog! You have lots to explain, seeing you have not made a decent post since last fanfest!

I appreciate the fact most game company CEO's don't even attempt to communicate with their customers and yet here we have a blog from Mr. Hellmar. However, this is all fluff, there is no real information being shared, just some vague political opinions.
Personally, I'd rather hear more about some of CCP's recent controversial decisions than read bland statements with little to no actual meaning.

Here's a question for CCP: what percent of your operations are funded by debt? I'm no financial expert, but it seems to me that corporations are getting into WAY too much debt these days, and it's now coming back to haunt them with this financial crisis.

dont ask me how it works but technicaly it was and still is cheaper for big companys to be in debt than to have a fat bank account taxes and the like you know just how much nobodys gona tell you even remotly exact numbers, theyd be silly
thats the same sort of bs like cross boarder leasing i.e. your a local train company... you sell all your trains to an american company(think they are those guys with the loophole) only to emediatly lease it all back result : saving a decent amount of taxes and both get something out of it
that both things are even possible and have been for ages boggles the mind
in any case id still like that devblog on actualy pressing matters mr hellmar

Actually, *ALL* publicly traded companies release these numbers in their annual financial statements. Liabilities to stock holder equity ratio can be computed from the Balance sheet. Most corporations (in the US at least), maintain a 60% level of activities funded by debt. The remaining 40% are funded by stock holder equity (through their own revenue, and through the sale of stock).
However, CCP is privately traded, so I don't think they release those statements to the public.

CCP is not a publicly traded company, but they do have investors and thus they do release some of their financial records in the form of a Investor Prospectus. You can download the information from CCP's corporate web page.

Nice, at least a Blog to address our concerns of the impact the economic situation in Iceland has on CCP.
Now, let move on to the next issue... Hellmar, have you seen this thread recently? http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=896318
We will certainly appreciate if you can share your views on that issue too. |

As soon as this thread (which is the probably only thread to disappear from the Information portal for "technical reasons" ever) is off the news page you won't hear from them for weeks at a time.

Thank you Hellmar. I've been wondering how hard CCP was hit by Iceland's bank problems and the global credit crisis. Good to know that CCP and EVE is still strong.
