today a mission NPC called Olufami (damsel in distress) dropped a yellow frequency cristal named 'Standard M', which I've never seen before. No market item either.
Description says: Modulates the beam of a laser weapon into the visible light spectrum
Attributes are somewhat basic: 6 HP EM and 4 HP thermal dam with -50% cap need bonus. Its a tech level 1 item.
Anyone else came over this one too?

They're a new crystal type, the -50% cap usage makes em' a good one to use.
Always hit the big red button whenever you get the chance.

That is the 'normal' crystal that lasers were supposed to have had awhile back. ____________ Sex / Rank 9 / SP: 1280 of 2304000

...erm....

actually theyre worse than lead, cause if you go up the range ladder to the +20% range ones, you get more damage.

The 3rd turret is the Malediction is missing. Plz make as much noise as possible so that CCP gets us a remedy for that, possibly before X-Mas this year. |

even so, 50% less cap on the lasers is a thing to consider. Or at least I think it is... -------------------

Nope not for the amount of crap dmg it does. A Microwave crystal does way more dmg, has 40% more range and has -25% cap use.
BTW if you really think that 50% cap less useage is good then you need to up your skills. Lasers are a lot less cap hungry if you have your bs skill at 4. ________________________________________________________

-12.5 range crystal (UV) has -40% cap use.
And there's still this gaping hole in the damage curve for crystals at "0%" range.
The Standard is seriously underpowered compared with all other crystals.

Anyway, I just made a post on this without realising this thread existed.
So, after asking for deletion, here is what I had (have) there:
Iridium (H), Proton (P) and Infrared (L) all have a 20% range bonus. Lead (H), Depleted Uranium (P) and Standard (L) all have a 0% range bonus.
Going from Iridium to Lead for hybrids will increase your damage (theoretically) by 20%. Going from Proton to Depleted Uranium for projectiles will increase your damage (theoretically) by 17%. Going from Infrared to Standard for lasers will DECREASE your damage (theoretically) by 30%.
Is this messed up in some way, or is there a deeper meaning to all this?

I praised the additon of standard crystals... until I saw their damage. They should do equivalent damage in numbers to Depleted Uranium and Lead, which is 8, 16, and 32 from small to large - but they only do 4, 8, and 16.
So they are currently ruddy pointless... and until they fix them, they shall remain that way. ________

If i remeber correctly, its even the stats for firing a Laser without crystals before that patch, same statistics all over the board.
But the damage is really crappy, wouldnt wanna use on even if its the only one i would have........

i think those crystals are for the non amarr ships users that decide to fit lasers afterall, couse without the amarr ship bonus to cap decrease, fireing lasers can and will hurt yourself more than your target

I'd like to see a extreme short range crystal for lasers, something like the equivalent of a sawed of shotgun :)
