Edited by: Neth''Rae on 17/10/2008 15:04:45 I noticed mods now show a graphical animated representation for each cycle, it's a loading bar shaped as a small ring around each module. The loading ring as it is now stands out quite a bit and is a little distracting, I hope they tone it down a little before QR gets released. Also storefronts got its own icon..
Anyone noticed anything else?
Edit: Also, new loading and login screen (but no new skin-colour )

Hmmm... well, I can't see anything on these screenshots that looks odd (except the module cycle rings of course), so it must be a sub-UI. Considering storefronts, the medal system and the certificate tree were already discussed a lot as well, it must be something unexpected.
I can't get on SiSi myself, but I'll encourage people to check out the 'usual suspects'...

I honestly wouldn't call this change useless. I've often found myself struggling to get the proper window arrangement in order to make sure all the relevant information is available. As it is, I constantly have several chat windows open (Alliance, Corp, intel, some social channels), and on top of that I have overview, selected item, sometimes fleet and drones...
So the more we get to play around with and customize the layout, the better in my opinion.
I gladly welcome this change.

Dear god yes, please! WANT!!! I've been running DS for years now and I've *always* wanted to make use of that extra screen without splitting my ship and HUD up the middle. This is my question as well. These changes look great, and I'm pretty excited, but as it stands now the overview is buggy and pieces of it love to jump all around on the screen. I'm worried that by making the HUD moveable it will be just another contestant in the game of "Musical Overviews".
Any word on when this will be fixed?

CCP, please just make sure that the saved settings for all these new features are in a file format that survives patch updates.
No one will want to use the new features if each time a patch comes everything gets reset to the default locations... At least they won't after the first patch is deployed. :-)

This. The changes seem great, but they must not behave like the current windows, that have to be placed separate or overlapping to prevent them from wandering. This will determine whether this change is great or a epic failure.

(And by the way, I guessed it before I got to the post which announced it... but was afraid to hope!)

What if your guns run out of ammo at different times? What happens then?
Like sometimes you string your missiles, or a blaster gets stuck off and you have to turn it on after the others, etc?

I'm only reporting what I've heard, and I forgot to check the fire linking effects when I was on Sisi earlier...but at the moment, guns that are linked share an ammo supply, and are all fired simultaneously. So, for an example:
I have 6 cruise missile launchers that can hold 30 missiles I link them I load them with missiles I now have 1 uber-cruise missile launcher that launches 6 missiles at a time, with a total capacity of 180 missiles __________

Oh ok, I understand. Interesting.
So if I want to string missiles, for instance, I could chain 3 and 2 and 2 or something.
Thanks!

what if im using... say 3 425mm and 3 220mm autocannons? does that mean my 220's will essentially have a larger ammo supply and the 425s have a smaller?
what if im using 3 cruiser launchers and 3 torp launchers? they must be in two groups?
or even several different types of cruiser launchers that each hold different amounts of ammo.. any way i swing it i see this being an awesome feature... BUT i dont see myself using it often because i think i would prefer to be able to stagger my guns/missiles, but i still want to be able to mass ammo change... _______________ if CCP's logs really never show anything, i have to wonder, do they even have logs? |

You can't link weapons of different types, and I don't think you can link weapons of different meta levels - so if you've got 4 autocannons and 4 torp launchers, you can have a group of 4 t2 800m autocannons and a group of 4 t2 siege launchers. If you mix and match different launcher types, I don't believe they can be linked. __________

No, it doesn't make sense.
What should happen is, the UI lets you link weapons of different types, but then you get a "can't do that" pop-up with an OK button that you cannot "never show this again". And the pop-up repeats until you unlink said different weapons.
That's the way it's done.

Hardly useless. Dragging the overview to the bottom of the screen is practically impossible now because it covers up a bunch of module slots. Moving the HUD over to one side makes this possible and that's a nice change.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

Also, if you align vertically, how come the tiny weapon/module icons don't seem to take advantage of this. It would make the icons more useful than they are today. _______________________________________________ CCP CENSORSHIP ALERT: CAN YOU SPOT IT? |

Good job CCP, the UI changes looks great. I have a few comments on the loading rings: 1. The rings are too bright and stand out from the rest of the UI, perhaps they can be rendered in a duller color. 2. I don't want to be presented with loading information for hardeners/webs etc. Will there be an option to turn off loading rings for specific modules?
Thanks Dom

Can we get some better HEAT BUTTONS? I play in 1600x1000 resolution and often press these buttons accidentaly when I want to activate modules or on the opposite - I have to aim precisely when they are needed FAST. The heat damage indicator is OK, but the "little green part" to set overheat ON/OFF sucks realy

Two more SIMPLE things I'd love to see:
A windows message that I can move and scroll with damage notifications (like green - you hit for X dmg, red - you were hit for Y dmg) and state changes (like "You cannot warp due to being warp-scrambled). Now all the messages appear so fast that I can hardly see anything there and it's REALY useless.
A simple window like the one in the MAP with "SEARCH" option, so I dont have to OPEN MAP -> SEARCH FOR SYSTEM -> CHOOSE FROM LIST -> SET DESTINATION -> CLOSE MAP, AUTOPILOT every time I want to move somwhere. That could reduce lag to since I won't be opening the map to travel 2-3j.
So in short: - better OVERHEAT toggle buttons - more readable, scrollable and colored window with damage/state - SET DESTINATION window on main screen
Pls pls pls :)

Yes it is. Though it might need some work. I could not in space unload my weapons. Had to dock first, manually remove my crystals then undock, and then I could link all weapons then charge them up. Changing charges was also a bit buggy but when it worked it worked very well.

Not completely you can't. If you pin a window that is snapped to another window then it can still move. It will follow the other window around and if the other window is closed the so-called 'pinned' window could do anything.
I have my overview/selection/drone windows all pinned in their default position (albeit somewhat wider). When I launch drones the drone window vanishes and the overview jumps to the bottom of the screen. When the drone window reappears the overview moves back where I want it. Hardly the actions of a 'pinned' window..and yes, I do have the ESC menu setting set. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

Reloading/changing ammo types all at once.
Also consider lag fights. Easier to change one weapon group versus 8 weapons. Might even be possible to reload or change ammo. Might even reduce server load if it only needs to calculate 1x weapon group versus 8x weapons.

I can imagine the same thing happening to the UI. When I PIN something, I want it were I pinned it.

Very excited to see improvements to the space UI. One big question:
Will this also include configurations being saved for each ship including things such as orbit distances, distance maintained, etc?
It would be so nice to be able to configure each ship individually and have the configured settings automagically recall simply when changing ships rather than having to configure this again and again each time we switch between ships, particularly when having to undock so often into hazardous areas in order to be able to configure the new ship for optimums and such prior to being ready to engage the enemy threats.
Cheers for the good work. CNUF-

Although this is all well and good, the most important UI issues I have is the UI moving stuff around on it's own When I pin something somewhere it's because I want it pinned EXACTLY there. I don't want the whole UI reorientated next time I join a fleet or some other. I want the windows to stay put! ==================================================

Originally by: Captain Nuf Very excited to see improvements to the space UI.
All settings should be able to be saved and imported/exported using XML so we can move settings between chars and not lose them due to dodgy patches etc. Setting up your overview etc takes a lot of time, to lose it, or have to repeat the procedure on a different character is not fun.

Very good points made on "setting being saved per ship" and "being able to export settings between characters".
But here is an interesting question regarding weapon linking. If you run low on the ammo of your choice, and don't have enough left to reload all of your linked weapons (or if you switch to an ammo type that you are running short on), what happens?
Ideally I would think each weapon would get an equal (or as close as possible) share of the available ammo. For example, instead of three of your weapons that are linked ending up fully loaded, one partially loaded, and 4 not loaded at all... you would have 8 weapons that all reloaded roughly 45% full.

My point exactly.
I can imagine the same thing happening to the UI. When I PIN something, I want it were I pinned it.
Also as was stated above, now that station services etc can be moved, (unknown as to why tbh) mine has a life of it's own.
Quoted for great justice! Make windows lockable.

That and a greatly reduced load on the node your fleet battle is occuring on.
Also. Random window placement even if you have pinned the window ftl.

CTRL R sent too many calls to the server. This is much moar node friendly.

Talk about giving the spuds a coconut.
With all the shit gogin on in this game and at CCP in general, and you all wet your pants becuase you can slide your HUD to the left.
You KNOW for a fact that HUD is gonna be pinging all over the shop every time you undock, jump, scratch your nose.
As for weapon linking.. thats a giant **** up waiting to happen in so many respects its not funny.

Why would it? None of the other UI elements do…

It "transforms" your eight guns into ONE gun which is eight times more powerful than a single one. This basically makes your eight weapons function as one, and thus removes a SHITLOAD of database calls for the server and frees up resources and combats lag.
Balance is important, but you will always adapt to changing circumstances and you don't whine about stuff you can't change. |

No. Your eight guns are still calculated independantly but you only have to tell the server once that you would like to fire all guns and not a call for every one. Now what a smart cookie fc needs to do is figure out exactly how many guns per ship in a fleet are needed to instapop a target and have a group setup for the primary, secondary, etc etc.

Can you please make it, so when I say PIN, it PINS.
Do you actually have the option enabled to lock pinned windows in place? By default it's not enabled.
Otherwise, I don't know why you're having things move. My stuff used to move around on its own, but it's been fixed now.

actully I get the feeling they are going to make it call in as one gun and log it in the combat log as one big chunk of damage.
not sure though as I have no tested it on sisi, but it seems to be what they were saying.

I'm somewhat new to eve and my single biggest compliant has been that the UI seems a bit clunky for such an old game. Not being able to move the main hud has irritated me sense day 2-3. Thx...
Now I have to figure out how to setup my windows all over again...:)

Yea I have that option ticked, but my boxes still jump all over the screen, seemingly at will.
What it boils down to, (I believe) is that if you have one box positioned in the same spot as another or lined up with another, when one closes, the other jumps to fill it's place.
Now as I like my overview and selected items box to the far left, as the station stuff is in the same position, when I undock, it's a wait and see situation as to where the overview and selected items box will be. Giving the fact I also fly Gallente alot, the drone box also moves.
I can see the same thing happening with the UI.
As I said, PINNED should mean PINNED.
