I am too dumb / too lazy to find the info on it.
Did CCP say that the moon goo will be in random location spawns, or in static locations, like an asteroid belt? |

From what I gathered you may have to scan down the ring, but you also have to use an asteroid scanner, to scan out where the goo is in the ring, as it will be in random rocks in the ring. That which does not kill you, makes you stronger.-á Friedrich Nietzsche

CCP has mandated that the dumb/ lazy players won't be allowed to do it anyway. So don't worry about it.

Iirc, it would be random within the ring/belts themselves, but appear in 'veins'. Scan down a rock with it in, then another, then another, and you could be pretty sure you've found a string of rocks with it in, that you can follow until it stops, then find a new vein.
Almost kinda like Battleships, but with mining, and the rocks dont shoot back. |

So would these rings randomly spawn within some subset of systems, or would the ring be anchored to a specific system? |

I would imagine they will have to identify certain celestials to have stable rings to explore for these purposes to find random sources. But again it's still mere speculation based on realism of current understanding of astronomy. This feature has only really been dicussed by CCP at the concept stage so far, no real fleshing out of specifics as yet. Bounty Hunting for CSM7

I don't recall them stating that moon's would be supplanted.
I also don't recall them stating that roid belts would be going away but would be cool if they did.
Will be a nice change so my miners don't go AFK and get themselves killed anymore.

Ah, OK. I was working under the assumption that this change goes live with Inferno. If it is just at a concept stage, then we are looking at winter release, at the earliest. |

CCP thought Mass Effect 2 was awsum, so they decided o steal the idea and apply it to planetary rings. Thus applying a boring mechanic to a ridiculous concept.
Why are all the fanboys drooling over the concept of mining planetary rings anyway? It are only rocks of ice the largest a few metres across but most of it you can put in your glass and pour whiskey on. If you want to mine that crap, you'll have more use for a butterflynet strapped to your ship then something else. http://go-dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/Tobiaz/sig_complaints.gif

Even if they did move ALL moon mins to rings n rocks, you have to use a reactor at some point along the way. |

No, you need them to set your pos AND to ring mining, but you can't do it any more without effort. You have to do it with an Hulk or some dedicated ship from now on.
The good thing is that you don't have to do it you can sit in a station and trade witch is undoubtedly the only game segment you don't have to put whatever effort in training. You can but you don't have to. It's also the part of the game with the lowest to none fee once you've trained some skills (goes really quick) and 0 risk.
So why are you wining about moons? |

I hope the Moons for the most part stay the same & have not heard they will be otherwise. Greyscale specifically stated that he would rather have you and 9 friends mine moon goo than have large alliances treat it as an "ATM" for ISK. What I took away from this was no more minerals in the moon for a POS to vacuum. Manual effort in the form of mining will be required. |
