Sure you could buy faction gear, but that is an immense amount of ISK to sink into a single ship that will more than likely die the moment you meet someone who has more skillpoints and has been playing longer. It just feels like a huge barrier before you can get the gear and skillpoints to remotely have a chance at killing the other player with a higher number of skillpoints.
Having more skill points then someone else doesn't make you better then them, or worse for that matter.
The simple point is its not how many skill points you have, but rather how they are put into play, for instance, I am a 26 mil sp pilot, yes I can pvp, mine, rat, trade, fly capitals, etc, but at the end of the day, when I am in my ishtar (gallente hac) the guy who has specialized in flying hac's and flys them all the time might only have 15 mil sp, but I can bet you unless he does something wrong he is going to beat me.
In this game its not how many SP you have, sure more sp gives more options but at the end of the day, player skill, ships fitting, and more now then ever team work will win the day, not SP.
As far as better gear or equipment for older players thats not true either, most types of t2 weapons, armor, shield, ew, drones, etc only takes a few weeks to months to train into, yes that seems like a lot, but tbh your not going to use 1/2 the stuff most of the high sp players have access to atm anyway, and if you ever want to, just change your training to reflect your new choice of equipment to use.
EvE has the most intresting and in depth skill system in the MMO world, and I would hate for that to be ruined because someone wanted to grind guns to lvl 3, its just not that type of game.
