I'm having real problems with the second part of this mission!
The first part is straightforward but after the pathfinder gate I just get swarmed with drones and nothing I do seems to help.
I have a Cyclone and have tried various passive and active shield/armour tanking setups but just can't cope with the sheer quantity of drones.
I can't even fly away and pick them off from distance with missiles as MWDs conveniently don't work there.
Is this possible as a solo mission?
Any suggestions would be appreciated! |

Pick up an Afterburner, which should be enough to disperse the droneswarm a little, Use a active tank, obviously and maybe try using artillery if you're not using it yet. Use your drones to kill the Strain drones first (if any) and then have them kill anything you can't hit with your guns. Use Phased Plasma for the guns and Thunderbold missiles for the Launchers. Also switching Heavy Launchers for Assault Launchers might improve the performance against smaller drones but you will loose some range.
I did this mission line with a active shield tanked laser Myrmidon, so it should be possible in a Cyclone.

What are you doing in a Cyclone?? 
Get a Drake. Plows through level 3s.
If you can't wait that long, get a Hurricane. Or bring a friend.
But failing all that, take the advice already given. And get rid of the Cyclone after.

I don't have any personal experience with that mission, but the Cyclone isn't a terrible ship. Sure, the passive Drake and the passive Hurricane are better, but I wouldn't necessarily get rid of the Cyclone. I found it reasonably effective, albeit the character has good skills - all Minmatar ships require good skills. This is what I messed around with:

Flying a 'Cane, I tried to get cute by using Smartbombs on this one, waited for the swarm to get close, and activated the SB's. Whoops! Didn't damage them fast enough to make a difference, my shields and armor went down fast.
The next time I just used my AB, light drones, arty, and heavy missiles. Your speed is the best tank on this one, just keep going till you clear the smaller drones out, and can concentrate on the BS. (Which looks like a big insect).

Sorted. My trusty Cyclone saw me through OK in the end!
My usual active shield configuration was fine after all - just had to run away using afterburner INSTANTLY after coming out of warp (before they all attacked me at once) then pick them all off one by one. (took about 45 minutes though and another hour to go back and salvage all the wrecks!)

I had fun with this mission, on the parts where you are swarmed with small drones, I brough in smartbombs, a few blasts took care of them all and let my drones clean up the rest, quite simple really

If I ever do this mission again, I'll bring more smartbombs, just to see them pop.

I tried smartbombs but they were quite ineffective for me.
By the time enough pulses had occurred to cause fatal damage my shield was already gone and I was warping out!
