I was a beta tester who came back for a two week trial (started paying a couple weeks ago) and was astonished at the price of Miner II's. I remembered them being a few thousand back in beta. Wink

Even before I got into the corp, I found making money easier this time around (well, the fact that agents actually worked helped). I hardly ever had any money in beta, now, even without corp help, I could make several hundred thousand mining omber or something.

Adding a tax for using jump gates could slow down inflation me thinks. Like 100 isk for a jump doesn't sound like much but when added together for thousands of players who jump several times a day it should add up. Just my 2 iskies.

edit: oops, didn't know this was a necro. :P

Many of the truly BASIC items are fixed...as in, they're sold by the NPCs. This includes shuttles and the basic Tech 1 turrets and whatnot. A good indicator of an NPC item (as far as I know, I'm fairly new too) is if it has 833 units for sale ALL the time, then it's probably NPC stocked. Basic items are NPC stocked to prevent a rich player from buying them all up just to grief.

Just because you know about online economies doesn't mean you know about EVE's economy. There is no other MMO that comes close to EVE in terms of industry and economy. You have to play a few weeks or months before you can get a good grasp on the way things work. Even then you will still be learning stuff after many months.

Either you are not using the market properly or you are severely underestimating how quickly you can earn isk in the game after getting the hang of it.

Not only has regular equipment dropped severely in price lately, tech2 equipment has dropped in price a lot with the advent of invention, and even named items have dropped ridiculously in price over the last few months almost across the board.

Oh, and seriously, how could you possibly know whether inflation is killing newbies after one day? That's a pretty ridiculous assumption to make by barely playing the game. EVE is not a game you can understand quickly.

As a new player, money as yet, let alone inflation, does not really concern me a great deal. I can afford to fly my Tristan, I do a combination of mining, ratting and missions and earn enough to keep me going for now. What is far more important is training up my skills.
When I wanted something badly enough; such as my miner II's, I worked and saved for them.

I'd have to disagree 100%. I'm new, and one of the first things I noticed was how easy it is to buy new ships and equipment when mine gets blown up. And I'm even lazy - I use the automatic 'sell' thing, and I pay more so I won't have to travel far to get stuff. I have about 2 million now, which I'm sure seems miniscule to most, but its plenty to supply me with things I can use with my low skills.

And all I've done so far is the NPC missions and sell/reprocess the loot. From what I understand, mining is even more lucrative. I've played many games where if you don't have a high level alt or outside help, you will suck for a long time and everything will be twice as hard. This game isn't one of them.

I think your just sufering from newbie syndrome. I have 30mil banked and 9000 megacyte up for sale and I'm only two months old and have 1.9 mil skill points. The curve for gathering isk and power in this game is exponential. Right now you may only be making 100k a day but very soon you'll easily be making 1 mil isk a day and then after that 10mil 100mil and so on.

If you do join a guild make sure it's part of an established alliance with access to 0.0 space. Since that is where the money is.

This is true. I am a two and a bit years old or so and can make 20 mill in a copy of hours fairly easily. Additionally I live in Empire. Out in 0.0 you make ISK even faster.
