Dear Zeba,
Mainly, because I ran out of characters... LOL! Only 5000 to use and so little time. Also, this way, if folks just wanted to see the lot together, they could readily do so.

I'd be less embarrassed if I had left a dildo out on the table when my GF came round, rather than those toys.
At least after explaining why it was there, you would have a use for it.

I am thinking $500 US = 14.28 of 60 Day GTC. So, I guess I will be spending that money on the GTC then.
Still, it's cool, just somehow they do not look as good as they do on CCPs website. Is it the camera? Lighting? They look too "plasticy" for the lack of a better word.
Anyway, enjoy em. Hope you don't have a cat, mine would start chewing on them things straight away.

I have to agree with you Mr. Murphey, rather enjoyed that the painters used air brushing and then dotted out the different lights on the skins of these ships. Not sure if they could've gotten more out of inking and shading, but then again, that's also quite a bit more time involved with each miniature.
Again, my only complaints really fall on the Tempest in the use of the standard and slightly out of scale paneling vs. the rectanguliar panels of the faction version of the Tempest. Also, I'd have preferred if the majority of the tubing was in fact a separate piece per side, instead of being completely solid throughout the miniature. Depending upon the casting this could have been a bit more time-consuming, tedious than what they were capable of doing at the time of production.
Again, hope that you enjoyed the links to the different pictures. Diplomacy hiding in plain sight... |

Im still dissapointed by the fact that these are preassembled and painted. The whole point of a model is to actually build the damn thing, not pull it out of the box and set it on the table to look at. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

Because creating a thread is such a load on a server...perhaps CCP should appoint you as special thread manager that has to approve of each thread being created?
Just shut up, you tit.
On-topic: I have to say I'm disappointed by these now that I've seen a few in the flesh. Too plasticky, and too 'soft' looking, like the moulding process couldn't do sharp edges properly.
Add to that the fact that they've got the faction paintjobs completely wrong, and I'm thoroughly underwhelmed. Shame.

They look ok but if you turn it over does it say made in China? They look cheap, or its the light or something...
They certainly don't look to me like they justify the price for them. Besides, a model is for me to build and paint... not to come in a box from China.

Very nice models, but the paint jobs as have been said are not my cup of tea.
I would defo repaint them myself to give them the justice they deserve.
Maybe if they were photographed in a low light setting with some atmospheric light played upon them they would fair better.

I still find it a big shame they are painted in a non existant paint scheme.. I mean come on, how hard can it be to paint a navy T in high gloss black and silver? Huge waste of what could be an accurate model..the same goes for the other models aswell. ___________

I think they would all look better if painted the same way as the apoc, screw pretend paint jobs if they just make them look like concept design models.

If I had purchased one of these and then found out that all I have to do is pull it out of the box and set it on a stand I would be ****ED.
It's a ridiculously expensive paperweight.
Now when are they going to come out with an actual model that you have to assemble and paint?

I wish cars and houses weren't so expensive either, but they have value to the owners and potential buyers. These things are solid items, not hollow flimsy model kits you might get in a hobby store. The hand painting no doubt drives up the cost, as well as the fact that they're probably not producing them in the tens of thousands.
Price is justified, at least in my opinion. :)

That maybe, but resin cast models are notoriously low model detail by nature of the way they are made and the material involved.
Can you imagine the extra greatness of the Fleet Tempest if it had been done as an actual model kit. All the tiny girders and minute details perfectly done.
To finish it off all you would have to do is spray prime it then put whatever paint schem you liked on it with an airbrush and some model paints. (admittedly the painting of it could go either way on it looking good depending on talent and experience)

Oh I think we can all agree on that point. My hope is that if they start doing cruisers and frigates that the cost is a bit less, but we'll have to see.

I was actually surprised at how much detail is there, I was expecting a lot less for the same reason you give. They may not have every scratch on the hull there, but it's still very well done.
Check out my Flickr set, I did some macro shots (lighting was crap, but oh well).
I could see there being interest for a paintable version of the models but that's going to have a much smaller interest than the already painted ones. I can't see it being cost effective at all for them to produce, especially given the niche nature of the current ones.

Having been at the house when Mecha took these photos, I can definitely say the camera was a factor in the appearance of the ships, most particularly the Megathron. The colors actually appear much darker and more subdued. Unfortunately the camera presented the same colors with much higher brightness and contrast. It just looked really bad compared to viewing the real thing.
I thought the models were quite solid with a good weight to them, so while they may look a bit ōplasticyö in the photos, they definitely arenĘt. My biggest disappointment was with the hand painted lights on all the ships. I was telling Mecha that had I bought them, IĘd definitely repaint most of the detailed touches. I think anyone with a little patience could have done a much better job.
For years I've flown nothing but Matari ships, so I was disappointed when seeing the Tempest. I wanted guns, more rust, and a better overall paint job. Since IĘm not an EVE role player I donĘt mind saying my favorite ship of the bunch was the Apoc. It has cool metallic accents, and wasnĘt ruined by so many of the poor quality details painted by hand.
Thanks again to Mecha for taking the photos. It was great to see them in person before they went to your office. I'm sure your co-workers often ask "WTF?"

Ouch, any pictures of the "standard" Megathron that aren't from the CCP website? Would've hoped that the copper tops and highlights with the rusted copper sides would've come out better than the pair of dark greens used in the Navy version of the model. Diplomacy hiding in plain sight... |

It's basicly plain grey plastic, no paintjob at all except for white dots of paint as windows and a small bit of black detailing that is wrong. - - -

Most cars value decreases by half the minute its drove off the dealers lot these days. These, the minute CCP stops making them, can only go up in value if in good condition, and dont lose such a big chunk of value the minute you open the box

I for one am glad you you didn't get your wish, since Mecha was taking the photos at my house
Staying on topic though, the camera did have the brightness and contrast a little high. They definitely look more 'spiffy' in RL, especially the Apoc.
