So should the lasers, torps, and hybrid weapons by that definition....

A laser does impart some kinetic energy to a target, but it's not really significant. Photons and all that, light pressure, yadda yadda...
Anyhow, EVE != realistic physics, nothing to see here |

Neither and both
To those that don't realize it that question is the physics arpoximation of: "If your alone in the woods and a tree falls on you, does anyone care?" |

it's a wave particle!

And you should so be able to get your crew to eject themselves from your ship....with jetpacks!!!.....then ram into the other ship to inflict damage....and also it would obscure the other ships sensors so they can't see ****......????.....Profit!!!!

Have you been to Jita? This would result in very bad things happening... repeatedly.
Originally by: Pteranodon Surely if a battleship collides with a frigate it should be game over.
Mass should be an available weapon. My ship is bigger & if it bumps into something smaller both ships should obtain damage & in the case of a small ship that should be significant-now try getting out of a Jita without bumping into something!

It'd get much worse if you were on autopilot.
I'd imagine leaving the 4/4 station in Jita would be rather similar. Numerous pilots outside - "Oh **** a freighter is undocking!" *changes course* "Move damnit!" *splat* *numerous reimbursement petitions and forum whines ensue* Freighter pilot - "Whoops." *switches to alt in a hauler to pick up loot* |

An interesting work around to adding collision damage could be a one-shot smart bomb type device that can be set to autofire when you get closer than say 500m to something, destroys your ship completely and deals damage in a 1km radius equal to how many units of <insert new item name here> you have in your cargo hold. It's not perfect sure but it'd certainly make Industrial ships scary.

Kinetic energy is mass * velocity^2 basically.
Ultimately, velocity + smaller mass vastly outdoes big mass and virtually immobile. Basically, interceptors would be insanely scary at full speeds.
Imagine undocking a pimped officer/deadspace fit mission farming BS. Now imagine seeing a interceptor zoom at you at 7+km/s.... that's a 1000 ton projectile going 7 kilometers per second - or something which would be roughly mach 20 on sea level to give you a idea.
Although mass scaling is a bit silly in eve, the difference between a ceptor and a BS is completely different then their respective differences in volume (BS are unrealistically light for their size).

another thing id like to add to this.. get 10 x expanded cargohold and put lead ammunition in.. increases your kinetic energy at collision - for top style ramming.

Which ship again has 10 lowslots? and expanded cargo holds reduce speed. which is bad for our experiment as E=MC^2 Notice speed is to the power of two? double the speed=Quadrouple the damage. So speed is much better than adding mass. This is why Kung Fu and such works for small chinese guys. They can simply move their hands much much faster and thus transfer more energy than a big burly 250 lbs bloke punching at 2m/s. |

Depends upon the amount of power behind the laser, as well as what bandwidth the laser is working upon, too. The higher the power, the more it becomes kinetic in damage, vs. being a thermal cutting thing. Red is weakest, green is somewhere in the middle and blue is much more powerful... Then there's that dispersion thing that'll start coming into play, too...
Have to agree, make it overly complex and they'll end up with an EVE-Online version of Advanced Squad Leader for playability and ease of use... |
