Surely if a battleship collides with a frigate it should be game over.
Mass should be an available weapon. My ship is bigger & if it bumps into something smaller both ships should obtain damage & in the case of a small ship that should be significant-now try getting out of a Jita without bumping into something!

I think that is correct-equal and opposite reactions and all that. When guns hit a target the target should react and get pushed into a new orbit especially with smaller ships. Eve uses an adapative physics engine-it adapts to whatever is easier to program.

That is an interesting thought. Concorde should not intervene as it is a traffic accident. The exploit for safe empire ganking is alrady in the mixer!

And lasers should create either a heat or a ecm effect, depending on the frequency. And Hybrids should punch through one layer of protection, blasters bleed through shields and rails bleed through armor.

Larger missles such as torps used to knock you around in the old days. This was back when torps were long range and could kill a frig with 2 missles.
This was changes as people were complaining that if they were getting ganked the enemy did not need to have a scram on them simply becouse the torps hitting them would knock them out of alignment that they would never reach 3/4 speed in the right direction to warp

... which consequently would mean, that the ship, that is firing the projectile weapons gets pushed off its course when firing already... impulse conservation principle.
oh and what about shields that take 100% of the damage ? would they absorb the impulse too or not ? I would guess, that the shields are an orb around the ship and that gets a small dent which is immediately restored by the shield emitters.... So bumping only if the shield is breeched ?
Sounds like a lot of physics involved to gain very little effect.
Taking mass and speed into the equations for bumping does sound reasonable though.. An 10k m/s inti bumping into a dread should explode, not send the dread bumping away.

Imo you should be able to turn on and off collision avoidance, by default it should be on.
If both ship got it on, it works like now If one ship has it on, that ships gets knocked out of course when there is almost a collision, the ship with avoidance off will continue its previous course If both ships have it off, the smaller one will be destroyed and the larger one takes damage depending on the size of the smaller one.

X3 has the right idea. You can kill NPC ships when you bump into them. You take a faction hit for each one you accidentaly kill & the death screams are hilarious. I used to take a big freighter out just to kill as many NPC's as possible in the shortest time-don't we call these people noobs in Eve!- I digress.

shouldn't the ship that fires also do these equilly (except with explosive (not the damage type, just stuff that created a bang from a reaction other than from a collision) ammo types) ---------

You do realize that a interceptor at full overheated MWD speeds would act as a projectile driving through (given how the best armoured BS has the equivalent armour of 3.2m of reinforced rolled tungsteen plates, and the very best you can get in game would be the equivalent of 11.2M of it) your armour with trivial ease, and then burning through the delicate hull of your ship as over a thousand tons of metal heated by friction to melting point plows through your ship's hull at the speed of sound, effective one-volleying your BS with a 15M interceptor with overheated MWD and 3x overdrive II?

Bumping is completely screwed atm anyway. After steaming my tempest at someone flying a malediction and coming to a dead stop with neither me or the inty whizzing off.
