Rorqual can do that. Rorqual is more expensive, but with jump drive you can retrieve hauler spawns that a bit away from station systems.
Besides, a hauler can carry around 30k-40k m3 for less than the orca. More trips but still doable.

May also be useful for the setup and takedown of POS's and keeping them fueled and transporting the moon minerals, advanced material, reactions, etc. back to station. Just some ideas of possible 0.0 usage.
I can see this as an option to consolidate mins from pos's to station. Then jf/rorqual/freighter to/from empire. And to distribute fuel. However in both cases this is a poor mans rorqual.
It's the high sec mans roqual. :-D

Could you provide a reference please? If true, that's going to change training plans.
Added: Nevermind, I found the post. CCP Chronotis corrects more than just the required skills for the Orca.

for speed, check the linky. (hint: it's a capital ship)
looks good to me, even as a 0.0 miner. with skills, rigs, and mods, 92k m3 cargo. not too shabby. skill-ready in a few days for anyone on their way to a hulk (barge 5, but not astrogeo 5). bonus to survey range is lovely (instantly tells you how well-stocked a belt is, lets you call targets to the better roids). bonus to gang links is great for those with the skills. tractor bonus is spiffy (pull in cans, crap em out for the hauling *****). good to have one for a medium-sized mining gang, but you can make work for two in a huge, well-stocked deep 0.0 belt or hidden belt and a huge gang.
in a pinch, it's the freighter for those that don't want a freighter. warps faster than a freighter, though i wonder if it aligns any better. don't need cap ship or jump drive skills for it. more gankable, though. and with the cargo space of two rigged itty v's or 3 bustards, an incremental improvement over those ships.

no ore compression, just makes it a bigger hauler really.. kinda pointless in high sec systems with a station Use quotes ("") in URL tags or it breaks the layout.-Rauth |

as far as I can tell, this ship is:
- a giant jetcan for easier high-sec dual-box mining - a giant industrial for easier moving of your 'stuff' when you move homes
I think it's actually more of a boost to people like me who mostly pvp but sometimes like to mine and sometimes need to move stuff around.

As a couple of people have said, it's also quite useful for small-med scale production. e.g. when you're making 10-15 T2 cruisers a day or so, it's a pain to move...either you do multiple runs in a small hauler or use like 15% of your freighters capacity. This will fill that niche quite nicely, although i'm kinda disappointed you cant fit a freight can in the hold when expanded.
As to those that have said it should have compression, I really don't think it's worth it for empire. This ship is supposed to just be a central point where miners interface with the haulers, whilst providing bonuses. Does a command ship do the same thing? It can do, but the orca has more utility for after/in between ops. |

Bingo.
Alot of 0.5 , 0.6 systems are barely touched because of there is a lack of stations, so the Orca should be a nice piece of junk for those systems. ------------

Anyone look at this and see it as a potential salvage boat? Sure its slow but once it warps to your bookmark its rare to find wrecks more than 70km out.
Just a thought for us high-sec mission running carebears out there |

I kid I kid... or am I
It has, what, 3 highs? I don't care how long it can tractor beam, if you're planning to put a Salvager I in each of the other two high slots, then quite frankly I think you have more ISK than is safe for you to control.

Proof? Also, yuck.
Meanwhile, a small and traitorous part of my mind wonders how long it'll be after release until I see them sitting alone in 1.0-0.9 space, AFK mining Veldspar, etc with mining drones and three of these things installed ...

Edited by: Xynomorphine on 28/10/2008 09:04:17 Guys if you read the link by ccp (http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=597) at the bottom it quotes,
"When can I test it on Singularity? Very soon if not already by the time this blog is published, and we very much want your constructive feedback and testing of the Orca both here in the blog comments thread and on the test server. Remember, the stats above are not final and are subject to change!
Ave - Chronotis" Unquote.
As I have feel it needs to be more of a mining command ship not a glorified mini freighter. quote from Command Ship "Role Bonus: 99% reduction in Warfare Link module CPU need. Can use 3 Warfare Link modules simultaneously".
And as for the High to Low slots their arnt enough for it to tank or even mend its self, should be 4 High, 5 Low, and 2 Low like the Hulk, well as I did read further up one of your toons will have to learn remote armour repair not my idea of a good time for that player having a slot taking up by a repper than say a mining laser.

I really wanted to be able to use it to move two rigged battleships around + mission loot and I can't see why they have stopped this. Sure I can use my freighter for this but it is slow and painful.
I wanted to put nano on it and hyperspatial velocity rigs so I fly to differnet agents quickly and get certain LP offers that I may want.
Cant see what the problem is with being able to do this and it would make the ship a lot more popular IMO.
Larger ship maintainance bay would be great!
