Edited by: Strill on 24/10/2008 11:50:27 Well good news for missile users, it seems CCP is making it so that T2 rage missiles + target painter equals an extra damage mod over faction missiles. So now torpedo ravens can do more practical, AND EFT dps than anything else.

- The ability to actually fit smaller weapons to fend of smaller targets
umm... I'll try to be polite, but was that a joke? It's certainly one of the silliest things I've heard.

- More slots that allow you to take EW counter measures
People use EWAR on unbonused ships after the EWAR nerf? That's the first time I've ever heard of it. |

Well in regards to fitting undersized weapons, it sacrifices your main objective (doing lots of DPS) in order to account for just one possible poor scenario. If you keep sacrificing your main objective to handle more and more obscure scenarios you end up being no good in any one scenario. |

Edited by: Strill on 26/10/2008 06:25:46 With max skills and overloading you can get 30% jam chance on a crow from one multispectral ECM II. I suppose it'll let you run away, but ECM is a defensive module. It's not gonna help you actually kill the frigate/cruiser that's attacking you.

Originally by: MotherMoon what is wrong with paper beating rock in a solo situation? paper should always beat rock, unless paper messes up, or rocks friend water comes in and gives rock support.
There shouldn't be a rock paper or a scissors. A ship should be penalized when trying to attack a ship of a smaller class, but they shouldn't be completely helpless.
Originally by: MotherMoon oh ho, excuse me? the stangard ship class?
up yours mate, I've never trained large weapons in my whole 3 years, they are far from standard, and I'm glad to see them pushed back into a role.
He has a point. Battleships are the "ships of the line" and are expected to constitute the main force of any large fleet. |

The era of the battleship blob is over.
Adapt or die.
No, battleship blobs are going to be perfectly fine. A small ship can only run under the guns of one battleship at a time. Two battleships = death to small ships no matter what the small ships do. The only era that's over is the era of solo battleships.

A question: The reason people have discounted drones is because of gate guns. But wouldn't the gate guns easily take out whatever frigate or cruiser is attacking you for you?

Edited by: Strill on 27/10/2008 01:19:13 If you expect soloing in a battleship to be possible, then a battleship needs to stand a chance against most any target they find themselves up against. If a battleship fits medium guns it's going to lose against other battleships, and possibly battlecruisers as well since it gets no bonuses to medium guns. In exchange it *might* have a chance to kill a cruiser if the cruiser stays in the right range for the guns, since you certainly can't dictate range with a battleship's speed. So then by swapping heavy guns for medium you've won against cruisers but lost against battleships and battlecruisers? What was the point of that? Likewise, you fit light guns and you lose against everything but frigates. Again. No point. You were better off with the large guns. If you fit guns of every size then you just end up being ineffective against any target no matter what their size.
There's simply no way to make solo battleships viable if there's a case where they can be so easily countered. Either they have a chance against the majority of things that want to attack them or they're not gonna be useful.
And as others have stated, this nerf only affects solo battleships. Battleship gangs will have no trouble with any of this.

Originally by: Cpt Cosmic bigger guns were/are not supposed to hit smaller targets and will never be, deal with it. and btw in a real fight you have more targets to care about, more neuts, more webs, more possibilities to reduce angular velocity to negate tracking issues.
Did you read what you just said? "Big guns aren't supposed to hit small targets...except in a gang where you have tons of neuts, webs, and angles."
So you're saying that solo battleships shouldn't be able to hit small targets, but it's perfectly fine for gang battleships to hit them.

And a thread full of people complaining that HACs are too weak and that battleships will always pwn them!
Congratulations, that sounds like balance to me!
think this is mainly about blasters tbh.
As I understood, the people in this thread are complaining that battleship gangs pwn all and that solo battleships are useless, while the people in the other thread are arguing that battleship gangs pwn all and that HACs are useless.
