This question has been posed several times on the threads about the Orca: Can a freighter load from the Orca in space. The answer based on tests on SiSi is no.
My question is: is that an option we should have? Will it cause more problems than it solves? What would the implications be if freighters were allowed to interface with ship based corporate hangars (including Rorq, carriers, etc.)?

I could support all ships with corporate hangars having a white zone (for immediate loading and unloading only)
As for ship transport I would rather have a T2 freighter that is mostly maintainance bay as opposed to fitting the curresnt freighter. |

If an Orca can interface with another Orca's corp hangar, then there is really no need for Freighters to be able to do the same.
One obvious effect of Freighters being able to interface with Orca corp hangars is that mining ops can be bigger, as only one hauler will ever be needed, who can be semi-AFK. This means that you'll be seeing more systems that have been stripped bare of all asteroids, it'll take less time to strip the aforementioned systems, there'll be more minerals in the market in a shorter amount of time.
It could possibly lead to a crash in the mineral markets. |

the reason for the freighter to have the ability to get from a orca corp hanger is like when mining ice.. you will fill the thing and need something bigger then one indy.. or just give it the ability to compress.. and who in their right mind is going to attack a freighter in high sec now that concord has been beefed up
i am thinking about how to make the most out of it and make the logistics of the mining easier for all.. and if a carrier or another orca can interact with another carrier or with another orca then why not a freighter

I totally agree that Freighters should be able to interact with Corporate Hanger's. They already have some method of external interaction, as other ships CAN access them, and all the ships that DO have the corporate hangers are definitely large enough to interface/dock with a freighter.
This would make remote resupply using JF's much more appealing as well. Might get them into some more risky situations, which is always fun! |

No, the white zone is for freighters. Now, there is no orcas in a RED zone.
The red zone has always been for orcas.
Don't you tell me which zone is for orcas, and which zone is for freighters.
Look Betty, don't start up with your white zone **** again. There's just no orcas in a white zone.
Oh really, Vernon? Why pretend, we both know perfectly well what this is about. You want me to have a jump clone.

This assumes that the other participants in the op would now be mining instead of hauling, which won't always be the case. Just because the players are not needed to fly haulers doens't mean that they will (or can) fly hulks, or even barges, in the op. |

To be perfectly honest, this is a limitation of your group's lack of flexibility, and not really a problem with the implementation of the Orca/Freighter. Bringing in an Orca to replace 3 haulers, or a freighter to replace LL of them, is more efficient, and you would realize gains even if those displaced hauler types hop into Bantams and hit up the rocks, that's still more ORE being mined/moved than you had before.

Sure... add more and more high sec asteroid stripping features. It amazes me that the Orca was conceived primarily on the basis that only large alliances can effectively utilize the Rorqual and thus giving the large alliances an unfair advantage in the ore collection. Guess who is going to have all of the Orca's in game? ...(d'oh!) the large alliances again; mostly because only they have the infrastructure to research and build them. Only this time they are going to have much much larger mining gangs since they don't have to watch their backs like in low sec. Thanks again all you high sec carebears for once again nerfing us all in your attempts to create a more carebear friendly economic environment... sounds a lot like what is happening in the real world. F#@$ing carebears!

Ohh, having transit ships would be kind of cool. A small ship which only purpose is to move ore and cargo from orcas/carriers/rorquals to freighters. Soon we'd have entire mobile poses of ships that need to be linked together and refueled during mining ops.

It only takes about 3 days for a hauler character to learn to fly a retriever. If your haulers are going to learn to fly an orca, you'll pretty much automatically get the skills to fly the barge. (except possibly astrogeology IV. I don't remember if orca takes III or IV) |
