I think I just answered my own question.

You did indeed. You have become their de facto CEO (or mentor) in some sense. Holding the title is much less important. An Eve Dissertation |

Well, it was great reading this thread, not so much for the content of the OP (sorry Vegeta, didn't read your dissertation... yet!), but for the whole history lesson.
I kept getting the name "Vegeta" poping up whenever PvP was the subject, mostly due to another vet that used to run with you (Vegeta). He biomassed his char and no longer plays, but his character was Ant1Soci1al, or something very similar to that. He always brings up the "old days" of passari and the real PvPers. Do you remember him?
Up until today, I dismissed all his talk of glorious old days, fighting mostly outnumbered, thinking he had little clue on how EVE really worked, but looking at that m0o history link someone put up, I see he was not lying.
Anyway, this is indeed all off-topic, but figured I'd give a shout out to someone who kept coming up even ever PvP was mentioned.
This thread made my day! Thx |

Your dissertation was fascinating and I've found all your points are pretty spot on with my own experiences. It is quite awesome that social research of online communities is becoming a popular field; it is an area that I love reading about.

Sadly WoW attracts the most interest, but I hope we see more Eve related stuff in the future. An Eve Dissertation |

Bingo right there. Academic research on World of Warcraft is becoming quite stale. The Daedalus Project and even Richard Bartle's research are some of the main ones that cover much of what WoW offers.
As you've noticed as well, many researchers shy away from EVE Online. In fact, you'd be surprised how few researchers actually play the games they're researching.
The quality and depth of many questionnaires and surveys are questionable. Not a whole lot of useful qualitative research as well. |

I'm glad you picked up on that, because that's exactly how I felt while writing it. I would have loved to have had another 2-3k words as there is quite a bit more to be said on the topic. An Eve Dissertation |

Then lost intrest because of the narrowmindedness of the dissertation.

I've downloaded it, but will have to get to it later.
I do research in the field of Leadership myself, so this looks interesting. Although a quick scan of your references section suggests we might follow different approaches ;). However, since this is a bachelor's you have plenty of time to be shown the light!
What are your future plans?
I'd love to do some studies in EVE. I'm restricted to football (soccer) at the moment though. |

Plan is to do further study in Politics and International Studies. What are you referring to when you say "the ligth"? An Eve Dissertation |
