Stop whining about hybrids, they are fine weapons. Huge range, decent damage to shields and armor. Sure they take up more cpu/powergrid than other weapons, but just so you don't whine too much I'd like to point out that the heavy beam laser takes 280 powergrid (a whole 20 less, NERF IT CCP) and 34 cap per shot. 34 cap per shot, can you think of any other cruiser gun that takes 34 cap per shot? At the moment I agree that projectiles are way to good, but I don't think hybrids are gimped, and I can fit 3 250mm prototype guass guns into my moa, and still have 92 power grid left over for low slots and medium slots and two m-12's. All I had to do was stick on 2 power diagnostic 1's. Hell, I even have 1500 shield now and a faster cap recharge rate, doesn't seem very bad to me.

Tulor, what "huge" range got rails? You mean the 425mm rail that shots 48km got "huge" range over the lasers and projectiles shooting 75km?

sorry shintai, I didn't know that this discussion was revolving around battleship weapons. Personally I don't think we can discuss bship weapons since they haven't been tested to any real degree and therefore we can't expect them to be balanced. My comments were about cruiser weapons, and as far as cruiser weapons are concerned then 250mm rails are the best range guns out there, better than the 680mm projectiles even. Of course I still think that projectiles are strong, maybe too strong but I hardly believe that rails are as useless as you all claim them to be.
Of course we could test something out first. As it is I have checked for my self and seen that laser weapons stack up damage modifiers from medium and small turret skills. For example, a heavy beam laser (mod 2.5) when equipped on my ship has a mod of 3.504. I checked the math and it appears that for energy weapons I am getting a bonus from small energy turrets as well as medium energy turrets:
2.5(base heavy beam damage mod) * 1.15(level 3 small energy turret) * 1.15(level 3 medium energy turret) * 1.06(surgical strike) = 3.504
I also hear that this is the case on projectile guns, small and medium turrets stacking damage. Could someone check and see if hybrids stack this way. If they don't then there is a big problem in the game balance, but if they do then I stand by my statement that hybrids are just as effective as any other gun type.

Also, let's not forget the +25% damage or range for hybrid weapons from the "hybrid" cruisers. You don't get that kind of insane cruiser bonuses for laser or projectile weapons.

Hybrids should be better than they are considering they use both ammo and cap power.
The dual 150mm in its current form is definitely a joke, everyone I know only carried them around unpowered because they were convenient storage for ammunition. But with the latest patch, ammo doesn't take up so much space so it's not a problem anymore. I think, that if it's the **dual** 150mm gun... why not just make it the same as a 150mm frigate gun use small ammo and let it shoot 2x as fast? I think it'd be an easy enough change =)
Is anyone actually using heavy blasters to any effectiveness? I think their effective range is just too short. |

ok guys listen for a second...YES dual railguns suck, so THEY need fixing. But as far as laser/hybrid balancing goes, comparing the top weapons in each set(hvy mod lasers vs. 250mm gauss) they ARE balanced. I have personally tried both loadouts on my thorax and there is NO comparison...the 250mm rails take down stuff at least twice as fast from twice the range. Hvy lasers are good ammo wise but they drain a huge amount of cap and have half the range of rails. If you are basing your arguments off of other people's comments DON'T...most of them are talking pre heatsink nerf when lasers DID rule all. So all I'm sayin is leave lasers and hybrids alone(cept for the dual 150mm rails).
...far as projectiles go though I will not comment since I have not personally used them in game, although from the strictly on paper stats they are wicked and need some kind of fix

But every one please rem that to get the best dam out of hybrids you need to use AM with the -60% range (there goes the range bonus over proj/laser) which will be implemented soon. After AM the next best dam does -50% range
At the moment there is no balance issue but once the range mods come in I think it will be a different matter

You people are forgetting the proj weapon upgrade this gives proj users indisputable power by being double the benefits of the hyb upgrade for almost half the cpu, this wasnt a prblem seeing as it was bugged before and worked for hybrids to but since it's been nerfed it's either proj's or loose.
maller with 3 x dual 425 scout artillery + 4-5 weapon upgrades at + 1.12 x dmg mod = 6+ dmg mod overall, hyb useers have no chance hence I've been playing planetside for 2 weeks :P and won't come back to eve other than to set skills untill they have this thing sorted.
