Edited by: James Lyrus on 29/10/2008 23:50:44 I've complained in the past, long and repeatedly at how the Crane really needs a few more powergrid. (http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=592110)
My prayers have been answered. In addition to the covert ops cloaking mentioned in the dev blog, the Crane is on 125 base powergrid on Singularity. Giving it 156.25 powergrid to work with.
Which in turn means, it'll be possible to fit a covert ops cloak, a 10mn MWD (you won't get T2, but named/faction/deadspace will go on there), 3 '1 powergrid' modules - like shield hardeners, or maybe an ECM burst,
I'm now a very happy bunny, and very appreciative of whoever was responsible for that particular balance change. Thank you, whoever that was. (and if they see this thread, and make themselves known to me at fanfest, that's definitely worth a beer or two) -- 249km locking? |

About bloody time, CCP (and good work, too!)
Personally, I think it should have 130 (base) PG but then again horribly biased Caldari is horribly biased ...

Hey there James, if you don't mind me asking, can you shed some light on how you'd fit and use a cloaked Crane? I was thinking of training that last Caldari Industrial level but wasn't sure how to use the new toy. I like the idea of a sneaky blockade runner hauling goods through hostile territory but I've had my doubts that this ship was going to be capable especially after nano ner***e. I'm a noob and could be all wet on that though.

It is going to be able to fit a Covops cloak. If its alignment time was enrfed it doesn't really matter anymore. And now that you can fit a MWD more easily, you can actually burn back to a gate if you had to, but honestly you just double click in a random direction and hit the MWD and then the cloak immediatly after, then you coast out of a bubble and then warp. This is like the best change CCP has made ever. Can you tell I fly the Crane?

I was going with:
Covert ops cloak 10mn MWD, 2x invuln field, ECM burst. 2x Local istab 2x low friction nozzle joints.
Move cloak and MWD onto F1 and F2, put the ECM burs If it's uncamped, just warp and cloak. If it's 'normal' camped, just ... warp and cloak. Actually, if they have inties, starting to align, lighting the MWD, cloaking and then warping is probably in order. If it's bubblecamped, pick a relatively clear vector, light MWD, engage cloak, and drive out the bubble and hope you don't get decloaked doing so. Warp when clear.
Alternatively, make burn to gate, which you'll probably do with high reliability, because the cloak will cover you long enough to get there.
Use ECM burst in case of emergency, but be very cool with it - it will stop you from jumping, and may trigger GCCs and sentry guns.

Hull: Badger Class Role: Transport Developer: Kaalakiota
Blockade runner transports are the fastest type of industrial available. Utilizing sturdy but lightweight construction materials and sacrificing some cargo space, these haulers are able to reach speeds greater than those of a cruiser while withstanding heavy fire - factors which make them ideal for zipping through dangerous territories with valuable cargo.
Caldari Industrial Skill Bonus: +5% cargo capacity per level +5% velocity per level
Transport Ships Skill Bonus: +5% shield booster boost amount -10% bonus to cpu need of covert ops cloaks
Role Bonus: can fit covert ops cloaks
(Additionally, has 125 base powergrid, rather than the 120 currently on TQ. Other stats appear unchanged)

No. It's still 1/4/2 + 2 rigs. Polycarbons will go from their current mass reduction, to 5.5% speed, and 9.1% agility. (Which in turn means they are stacking penalised with istabs)
Low friction nozzle joints go from -15% T1, and -20% T2, to -11.7% and -14% respectively.
Istabs are unchanged. None the less, that does mean you're a bit slower, both from the lower effect of the rigs, and because of the stacking penalty you get for fitting 4 agility modifiers.
I'll accept that, for being able to fit an MWD without a grid mod, and a covert ops cloak though. You're still probably faster than a covops frigate into warp :). -- 249km locking? |

Quote: To improve them we refocused on stealth rather than agility. They will gain the ability to equip covert ops cloaking devices and therefore can warp whilst cloaked. In lieu we removed the +2 warp strength and one or part of their active tanking bonuses which were not really being used anyway as much. They will also gain the ability to utilize the black ops jump portals.
By switching to stealth and cloaking as their primary defense in navigating through space and getting through gate camps they gain a significant edge in being able to cloak and move away fast if within a bubble. The ability to use the black ops jump portals is a fringe benefit allowing specialised operations where you would need cargo capacity moved around for a variety of reasons.
The above was in a blog by CCP Chronotis, has the Black Ops ability been implemented or scrapped...anyone know?

Hello, I'm having trouble seeing how it can fit a covert ops cloak with only 285 CPU and a maximum of 50% cpu reduction (with Transport V). The "jump whilst cloaked" options have 5000 or 10,000 CPU requirements.
What am I missing?
Thanks
