Way to go CCP! Just when I figure that there is no possible way for you to look any lamer or more incompetent than you already do, you go and and pull this.
You nerf the one item everyone has been waiting months to use. The one item people have spent (literally) hundered of millions to obtain. The one item you have been hyping for longer than I care to remember.
But, you don't just nerf it. Noooo. You totally destroy it. Make it completely useless.
I have to say, this rates a very special place in the annals of moronic moves and bone-headed decisions.
I salute you!

Oh, so its only a TEMPORARY over-nerf. Just one question:
Is TEMPORARY anything at all like Soon(tm)?

And all these posts and they don't sticky. does that say something about the kind of publicity ccp doesn't want.
Oh, they didn't just neglect to add a sticky. They are also actively deleting posts which they don't like. Not off-topic posts, mind you. Just ones which ask inconvenient questions.

Originally by: Kilhu Emmek Corp mate of mine had a great one, too: if you're cloaked, you're flagged criminal, so no sec hits, etc., if you sneak into harms' way.
Now that is simply brilliant.

Originally by: xOm3gAx i actually agree with the devs on this one... and believe me i hate to agree with them but having done quite a bit of programming myself mostly scripting for mIRC and a bit of web programming i know how it is... you identify the problem, hot fix the problem, release the stable upcomming release and then fix the problem and send a patch out.... my mIRC script is only 10MB in size but let me tell you when your editing scripted files of those sizes hunting down and finding a bug that could merely be a " . " or some other typo can take a LONG time.... ive had problems that were caused by a totally unrelated part of my script which actually corrupted and fried a copy of windows xp on my old irc dev box.. in short its better this way cus you need to test your fixes to be sure they wont do perm damage to the user system... alot of ppl who are talking lazy have no idea what goes into programming and how difficult it truly is... now i do agree that it sux with the 10km nerf but personally id rather have that then the instability we have now and id also rather have that then a rushed fix thats gonna cause more instabilities and problems...

Well, if you insist.
You seem to have missed the entire point of the thread. CP is not tracking down a bug. Cloaks work exactly as they were designed to work. The problem they have is a design flaw.
What they need to do is change the original design of cloaks to avoid abusive player interaction with their CONCORD protection system. The question is how best to change the system, how long it will take, and what to do in the interim. The fact that *you* write buggy programs is not relevant to the discussion.
Once again - this is a public relations and design problem - NOT a programming problem.
Now, as far as I am concerned there is one obvious answer to the problem, and a 10km decloak range is not it.
What CCP needs to do is:
A) Announce what the exploit is, and let people know that they will be banned if they do it. B) Ban anyone who does it, and let everyone know that people are being banned. C) Short Term Design Change - Make it so that using a cloak in empire is illegal, and criminally flag anyone who uses one. D) Long Term Design Change - Fix CONCORD.

Hmmm.... I just read the patch notes.
"You can no longer cloak if objects are within 10km. Entering this 10km buffer around other objects results in decloaking. Please note that these changes are temporary in order to deal with an exploit."
Looks like CCP has managed to completely ignore their customers yet again.
