so which one ? I'm currently on amarr space, but I get guristas missions sometimes(in a row =[) and I hate fighting them with amarr ships. I don't wanna train for a raven (eek). So which one of these two would do ok against guristas , maelstrom or typhoon ?
thanks!

Typhoon is a much better pve tool than the maelstrom. Still I wouldn't really recommend any of those if you have to train anyways.
Raven or Domi, srsly. Unless you wanna go pimpships.
And this is coming from a minnie specced guy

I really want to love the typhoon as a mission boat. I fly a fairly well equipped one. I can either fly it with a decent tank (Dual LAR2) that perma runs it, but has rather suspicously low dps, or a single LA2 gank setup which struggles frequently in level 4s).
Compared with my Domi it just seems like so much extra effort if not more fun with the typhoon though.

well , what about the hyperion/megathron ? Dominix is hell ugly ! remember I'll only use the ship vs guristas.
thanks for all the help so far

Yeah, then, why not, if you have the gunnery skills.
After a while you will probably be tired clicking all over your screen and get a domi Altho, weapon linking might help that...

I don't see anything wrong with a Maelstrom against Gurista. I have done such missions repeatedly in my Vargur with no problems at all. |

Get a navy mega. The extra low slot gives in tank+gank. Pick one up for around about 300 mill.

Typhoon Guristas fit: 4 dual 425mm II or best named/faction, 4 siege t2/named/faction 100mn ab II, 3 capr Large rep II, 4 rat specific hardners, 2 bcu drones : 5 ogre II
Or different low slot setup : large rep II, med rep II, 4 rat specific hard, cpr
both low slot fits are cap stable but top one has 100 more dps an low one has stronger tank

I would think an arty maelstrom would work well against guristas, since they don't get in real close, as compared to angels.

Also, maelstrom (be it arties or ACs) has the DPS of a soft cushion.

Edited by: Relicc on 01/11/2008 02:56:54 Mael can get about 400dps without drones using titanium sabot with large arty t2 gun skills. Its not great, but you usually dont have to fly around much since the 50km range +40km falloff with sabot hits just about anything from warp in. Its easier to afk level 4s in than a phoon, in my opinion. If you dont mind flying right up to every npc BS, then the phoon does pretty well with cruise, large autos, and some heavy drones. __

Edited by: Arsonin Flier on 01/11/2008 04:53:27 Phoon is by far superior. It uses missiles and drones, which are both awesome for NPCing.
You can even shield tank it (with rigs) and fit extra nano and damage mods (only against guristas).
Maelstrom is terrible, mostly because you are stuck using projectile turrets, which are terrible for everything. The Tempest is even worse because its damage sucks as much as maelstrom but is harder to fit a tank onto.
But other than that, yeah, what the other guys said. Use any non-Minmatar race's ship and you should be fine :) Caldar, Gallente, Amarr.
phoon setup: high: 4x siege 4x whatever (nos can be good for cap recharge) med XL SB, boost amp, MWD, E hardener. Low: 3x BCU II, a gyro if you bothered with ACs, a DCU if you didnt, nanofibers and ODs or istabs depending if you are belt hopping or missioning. rigs: 2x therm shield, 1x E shield
probably can't afk missions in it, but if you want to do that, just train a raven or domi, it'll be safer and go faster...

I would not go Domi. Sure you can tank the missions, But it takes forever to finish them.
If you have strong gunnery skills use the Maelstrom. If your skills are stronger in missles use a raven, If your strong in both drones and missles, use typhoon. I know the typhoon is suppossed to be the generic ship that is not strong in anyone area, but after training for one, I tend to think That its strength is the ability to deliver some decent damage while haveing an awesome tank.
IMO the difference between the domi tank and a typhoon tank is negligable even if the numbers look large. This is because the higher amount of armor and cap of the domi will only buy you a little bit of time, if the tank is broken its broke and a little more cap or armor is not going to save you. And your better off killing the enemy faster than being able to hang out a few minutes longer.
The fit I use that has seen me through even the hardest level 4 missions.
HI's:1 drone link augmenter, :1 mission specific large named smart bomb ( you do not allways get to use it, but your glad you have when you need it ) :2 1200 scout arties ( can be exchanged with nos if you prefer ) :4 Arbie Cruise missles
Med :1 t2 or named AB :1 Target painter ( exchange with another cap recharger if you like ) :2 cap recharger named or t2
low :1 DC named or t2 ( I allways regret not having it, so I call it a must ) :1 lars t2 or named :1 Ballictic control system t2 or named ( 2nd lars if needed ) :1 3 missions specific hardners :1 eanm t2, or another hardner if you cant use the t2.
rigs 3 times CCC Not only is the CCC one of the cheapest rigs, but IMO its a armor tanks best friend.
Drones: 5 times mission specific heavies : 5 times mission specific meds.
This has become my all time favorite. But I think it is mainly because I was planning on a typhoon from day 1 so my training really supports this. Id call it a good build to fall back on if you have a prefered one that is not working in a mission. This is because this works in every single level 4 mission I have done. That fact gives it some mileage I think.
For what seems to be a generic jack of all trades ship with no real stregths, the Typhoon IMO really shines whenever you need to be able to both deliver and take damage.
as allways many people disagree with me. I consider the missing pleasure hub interior a bug.. even if it is not. Please fix it. :P |

With over a 1000 dps tank on the maelstrom it can last long enough to slaughter any plate fit gank mega (Ok, but the OP was about NPC'ing...)
I use a Mega for NPC'ing... personal preference because my missile hit, well I can't even say hit because it is that bad.
Typhoon is the best bet, large drone bay and missiles and the option to run a shield tank in guristas space make it worth it. Maelstrom if you have the Guns and don't like the delayed damage of Missiles... I never could stand waiting |

Edited by: Sokratesz on 16/11/2008 11:18:00 I'd pick the domi because it can loot and salvage, too. Phoon needs all highslots to be competitive in the DPS area. |
