Not at all.
First of all the game is almost certainly going to look completely different, maybe even be 2d.
The combat mechanics are based on load balancing different power systems on the fly, which eve doesn't even have.
Also, it's single player and multiplayer, and includes landing on planets.
And of course the main focus of the game is that the ships run on an old school emulated 16 bit CPU. Presumably it will run subroutines that control the individual components of the ship. Scripting this CPU will be a huge part of the game, probably the main appeal (much like redstone and minecraft, except with much more power). In this sense the game is much more like X3 than Eve. Computers run even when the player is logged off, so perhaps you can manage automated mining and trading fleets?
Sounds cool, but not like eve. |

Well it worries me, love my EVE, and don't want to see it tarnished by some third rate knockoff lol. But then again I never could get into Minecraft, so I may be a little skeptical in general. |

Hard to tell. It's not as if EVE is 100% original either - Elite, Galactic Trader and even Starflight come to mind. If you're going to make a role-playing spaceship game, certain common design elements can't be avoided. Everyone expects spaceships to have "shields" for instance, thanks to Star Trek. If you're going to have a space-ship you can configure you are going to have to set hard limits on equipment size, and if you model energy at all, then energy use/unit time - call it "capacitor" or "watts" or whatever.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see. EVE is obviously good because we are all here - but I certainly don't expect it to be the last word in spaceship games for the rest of time. The bar is set quite high though. |

It's interesting that another MMO publisher is finally copying the PLEX system - do you have a link to this?

The business of an in-game programmable computer is kind of interesting. Maybe he is doing what many have suggested, and designing a game around botting as an actual game-play element. (Of course, he will still have to worry about the meta-bots in that case ...)
That DCPU-16 language spec looks like he is trying to bring back assembly language programming ... which for those of us of a certain age might actually turn out to be a perverse form of, ahem, fun. Compared to spreadsheets-online, that's really raising the nerdy-niche stakes. |

I am actually surprised this got the attention it has. My only hope is that if this does turn out to be an EVE clone, that it lights a fire under CCP's ass to get some of the features that so many people feel are squandered away in our game. That way we can win lol. |

I am not sure if we watched the same video. You say inspiration as if minecraft straight ripped infiniminer off. All I see is a REALLY ****** looking game with blocks, like minecraft has. Doom and Quake have more in common with each other than Minecraft and Infiniminer do. |

Except the website only went up yesterday and notch is doing nothing but talking about it on twitter.
I think its going to be more like minecraft in space with all the buildmod/industrialcraft mods added in is the impression i'm getting. Considering it seems to be referred to in a first person perspective with the single/multiplayer so it won't touch EVE with a barge pole |
