Edited by: Celebon on 08/07/2004 10:55:41 I've not really touched my research agents in over a month but I thought that I'd have a look at them today because of the faldaral about new BP's being added and I noticed something weird.
The new buzzard ship is in Caldari Starship Engineering on one research agent. Nothing really weird about that. Then i saw it in Mechanical Engineering on the same character. Nice I thought, I have another researcher who has that. So i mosey on over to check him and . . . no patents easily predictable?
I check another research agent who has mechanical engineering. Again, no patents easily predictable.
So, my question really is : Do sets of agents get the BP's and when one is given out in that set, do all agents from that batch loose the chance of getting it? Or is this a wee bug and certain agents aren't getting put into the lottery for BP's that they should? Thus, should this be petitioned?
Perhaps agents need multiple fields to get certain BP's?
Anyone?
Agents missing the buzzard BP from mechanical engineering are: Nalvola Nimmoda and Hakkonnonma Kunken (both Kaalakotia Corp)

Each BP has several (two I think) fields assosiated with them. For the buzzard BP it is apperently mechanical engineering and Caldari starship enginering.
For an agent to be able to hand out the BP he must have skills in BOTH mechanical engineering and Caldari starship enginering.
So the agents that has mechanical engineering but not Caldari starship enginering will not be able to hand out the Buzzard BP. |

Thats not true, my agent gave me a shield booster and he doesnt have Quantum Physics, only Hydromagnetic engineering. -------------------------------------------- [2005.02.08 13:58:16] Your Mega Beam Laser II perfectly strikes Sansha's Beast, wrecking for 709.6 damage.

Ok, then the system has been changed. PappaSmurf said that was how it worked, but I admit it was a long time ago, just after the R&D-agents where introduced.
I don't have any good explenation of the "problem" in the original post then... |

Edited by: Hellek on 05/07/2004 00:37:12 It works like this: Each agents can research several fields, you choose one of them and start to research it and get RP over time ...
Each BP has 2 fields which can give it. When a BP is put in the lottery, all players who have RP in any of those fields are in and might get the BP.
Example: The crow BP was in caldari starship engineering and in mechanical engineering. Player A has 2000 RP in mechanical engineering, player B has 5000 RP in caldari starship enginnering. Both players have the possibility to get the BP, it does not matter which stats their agents have or what else they research, only thing that matters is RP.
EDIT: This is how it *should* work

Yes, I know that.
But i have agents who have mechanical engineering who DON'T have the buzzard BP visible in the predicatble patents when others i have checked DO. It's not a case of they all don't have it, some do, some don't.
I'll recheck today but it seems some agents may be missing BP's that are predictable in fields that they have.

I'm researching mechanical engineering with my agent, but he has Helios (gallente covert-ops) listed under electronic engineering.
Kinda weird that covert-op frigates are predictable on so many fields...

Don't expect any help from CCP. They give no support to there paying customers. Over 3 months ago papasmurf was looking into lottery and still no post on it. Only thing CCP will do for you is take your money.

well, tbh, for me research is just gravy in the game for the meat of PvP. Yeah, i have 4 research projects on the go, but i was just curious.
I was just seeing if it is a widespread problem with the new BPo batches or just isolated to afew agents. Can anyone check ingame to see if these are real or just graphical bugs?

It seems that you've not received a Tech II BP through your agent yet. I understand the frustration. I was like that. It's just how the lottery system work, the lucky few gets it, the unlucky ones hate it... put it this way no one seems to complain about not winning the jackpot in the real world lottery. I believe the system works, as i only recently just accquired my 1st BP from my agents. After 7 months of researching i only got one out of my 5 agents, so it does happen. Don't blame CCP, it's just a luck thing. If you don't want them to take your money don't pay.
I would like to think CCP does and have listened to our players through out the 1st year of the game. I've been playing ever since Beta. Patience my friend, patience.
As regards to the orginal post, i too seen the problem with mechnical engineering with no predicted patents. Not sure what it is though need a GM to look at this for us. Why not send in a petition to ask the GM. Perhaps we might get an answer for that as i want to know too.

excellent, thanks for confirming this. At least i'm not going nuts. I'll send in a petition unless Zrakor would care to post and say this is being looked into?

Papa Smurf:Posted - 2004.04.02 09:48:00 The conclusion to this issue is:
- There was a flaw in the lottery logic early on in the lottery, allowing people with low RPs a much greater chance than they should have in the lottery, although never exceeding the chance of a person with high RPs. The fact that the majority of people have low RPs skewed the results.
- I identified and fixed it a couple of weeks after the discussion was at it's most heated.
- Having evaluated the damage caused by the bug, while considerable in the short term, it was deemed inappropriate to take further actions.
- Since then I have monitored the lottery draws off and on to verify that the bug was indeed fixed. I'm pretty sure it is now.
- Changes to the research agent system are highly likely in Shiva.
