Well, with one of my accounts anyway. Simply cant afford the cost, which is higher than any other MMORPG. GTC's were keeping me afloat. but now i just see my free time spending time in game, to make enough isk, to play the game. which makes no sense lol.
My MAIN character gets my stuff.
I know ccp raised their prices, but does anybody think they actually made money or lost money doing this. as lots of people canceled their alts.... cant see them making more money.

Even if they realized that the cost of fixing lag was more expensive then loosing a few thousand alt accounts?
EDIT: Which would give them extra time to work other things out.

What are you talking about? $15/mo is the going rate of almost every MMORPG I have ever seen. It's the going rate for WOW, WAR -- even ATITD, I believe. And every other one I can think of in the last five or more years. The average subscription price for MMOs has actually stayed about the same and hasn't gone up.

Old news mate. I agree, it was a silly, self-destructive move that will cost them a lot of money, but if that' how they want their game, then welp.
I ditched a dread alt and an exploration alt, BTW.

2 hours a month at US minimum, last I checked here in Chicago it was a little over $7 IIRC. ________

I think it's a little unfair to suggest that four hours of work (after taxes) to pay for a game is not significant. For some of us, it's a day's worth of coffee. For others, $15 is a big monthly consideration. At minimum wage (which in the US is admittedly not even one half of one percent of the population) 4 hours of work counts for 5% of your income.
I'm in no position to tell people what amount of money is or is not significant or that they should shut off their telephone service so they can pay for EVE or anything... BUT... $15 USD is definitely not *more* than almost all other MMOs - so if you can't afford EVE then you can't afford any other non-free MMO, either.
Frankly, I think allowing people a way to play the game in return for time invested in the game (acquiring ISK) rather than by parting with $15 is great. If $15 *is* hard for you to part with in your situation, then there is still another opportunity available!
Of course, you may not have much free time available either, if money is extremely tight. So, even if you can mine at a good 5m ISK/hr you'll have to do nothing but mine 2hrs/day every single day to keep up. If you can do that, awesome -- "free" game!. If you can't.. well.. that really sucks and I'm sorry. But while I sympathize, I'm not obligated to subsidize your recreational activities.

Well, you have to look at the bigger picture.
If you have 4 acounts running, 1 you pay with cash 3 you pay with isk. Your paying 12 quid a month for a computer game.Thats fairly justifiable I think.
If you pay for all your alts with cash you spending 50 pounds a month on a computer game, and you start comparing it to what else you cculd buy.
That your gas and electric bills paid A holiday once a year Insurance and tax on a car. All Xmas presents for your two kids.
Hell, if your frugal you can eat off 50 pounds a month.
Then you start thinig about all the hassel you have with thes multiple account, loggin on clients, changin skills, moving them about.
Then you start thinking about how its really one of the only mmorpgs where you need all these alts to get along.
Then you see things like THE POWERT OF TWO when ccp are trying to get you to get even more alts, 2 weeks before they sucker switch out the ghost training.
Then you think, **** this stupid game, and a curse on the house of ccp. Im taking that 50 quids and gogin to get ****ed.
Then you go down the pub, fail to pull a bird, come back and turn EVE on again.
(continue till death)

4 accounts is a bit excessive for 'supportable on minimum wage', but its still only two dollars a day. It's also ridiculously cheap considering comparable entertainment options - 50 dollars for a new video game? 30/40 for dinner and a movie? _____________________

And you have issues with $15 extra per month ?
Either:
- you are under 25 (and probably 14 and playing on your pocket money)
- your idea of a good job is very different to most
- both of the above and want some LUV from the forum members (which I doubt you'll get)
Either way, Fly safe, give your stuff to your alt (main?) .. - At least I have an opinion .... |

Edited by: Anubis Assassin on 06/11/2008 22:52:20 I love these comments:
Quote: Then you start thinking about how its really one of the only mmorpgs where you need all these alts to get along.
I keep seeing ones along those lines here on the forums in multiple threads. I think it's a bit stupid honestly. How about all the people that don't even bother with alts? I think it's more along the lines of "I've gotten too used to things coming to me easy by having multiple characters and now I can't have it so easy. So cut me some cheese for my whine..", but hey, that's just my thoughts... And no I'm not flaming the person who said this XD..
Anyway, $15/month really isn't THAT much. Even if you're about broke all the time like me :P
Lets see. $15/month: = maybe 3 value meals and a fast food restaurant? Give it up fat a**, you'll live. = 4 or 5 packs of cigarettes? Give up smoking, tis bad for you anyway (I'm tryin' ) = about 49 cents ($0.49) a day... Hell, tbh, I think I've got more than that in change in my pocket at the end of each day. = one 12oz can of (not bargain brand) cola a day.
Need I go on? Think about it...

I can see where he's coming from, to be honest. I have a hard time justifying keeping on three accounts when they cost cash but when I was supporting them with game time codes I had no problem with it. I let one of them lapse and might later reactivate it for a month to sell the main character on it, haven't decided yet. I can justify the expenditure of paying for two accounts to myself, I've added a year's worth to Nyphur and will probably keep the other account open on a month-by-month basis for as long as I need it.
Buying a year's game time only cost me about ú100 GBP, that's less than a tenner a month. I spend more than that on lunch.

I rat 2 out of the every 4-6 hours i get to play eve (on a good day) and I make enough ISK to afford to buy HAC's if I fly smart and not lose them for stupid reasons. I don't even play the 0.0 market, which would net me 100 million ISK easy in a few months. Only people who might have a problem affording to play eve in expensive ships are mission runners.
I don't care about them.
Maybe revisiting your play style would be good. You can always change what your doing if you cant afford to keep doing it.

For YOU it is a game, but for CCP it is the job. Just because you (proclaiming others to be a moron) believe, that you are entitled to get free entertainement on the expense of other people, does not make it real.
So do us all a favor, revoke the sub for your alt and your main, and work 10 hours a week for free for people, who really need help.
Oh... and I would not even want your stuff. It is stained.

If your choices are to pay for an account in an internet spaceship game, or to pay your electricity bill, you should NOT be playing that internet spaceship game. Take your time, and get a JOB!
Or if your job doesn't pay your enough, get a better/second job.
If you are playing this game by paying for game time cards, find a solution. Pre Paid Credit cards for example. This allows you to pay the 15$/month that most of us do, or hell, pay for the whole year ahead of time, and save Money. Then all the isk you make in game can go towards ships for pew pew.
