Edited by: Verx Interis on 08/11/2008 02:14:16 What I mean by the question is the space that you find Serpentis rats in belts is really small. In addition, all but 3 of the best systems with serpentis rats are in Fountain. The other three are:
A2V6-6 - Outer Ring YVA-FO - Outer Ring XZH-4X - Cloud Ring
Only XZH has a station in it, the other two are NPC controlled and are 16 and 14 jumps from the nearest station, respectively.
This is an image showing the size of each NPC pirate's patrolled space.
This image is the same but put over an outdated eve influence map (so you can see the actual space and compare)
Blood Raiders and Sansha are lumped together since they're both Amarr rats and in most aspects are the same.
Which rats control which 0.0 regions:
Regions with Serp rats: 5 Fountain Fade Cloud Ring Outer Ring Syndicate
Regions with Angel rats: 12 Feythabolis Omist Impass Teneferis Immensea Wicked Creek Scalding Pass Insmother Detroid Cache Great Wildlands Curse
Regions with Rogue Drone rats: 8 The Kalevala Expance Colbat Edge Oasa Malpais Perrigen Falls Outer Passage The Spire
Regions with Blood/Sansha rats: 8 Delve Querious Period Basis Catch Stain Providence Esoteria Paragorn Soul
Regions with Guristas rats: 8 Venal Tenal Branch Pure Blind Deklein Tribute Vale of the Silent Geminate
Not only do other NPC's have several more regions, they have many more good systems, and those system are more distributed.
It makes sense that Angels have a lot more, since they're supposed to be more powerful, but there's no explanation as to why the Serpentis are so small. Fountain is really the only region with Serp rats that's worth a damn in terms of money.
tl:dr version - there is almost nowhere with serpentis rats, see images. This be wrong. --------- Your bad loan management perfectly strikes the stock market, wrecking for -777.68 points. Eve job list |

Fine with me. Serp salvage is awful, although they give you 1600 plate and large hybrid drops out in their nullsec regions.
Also OP is missing the Empire regions where Serp rats occur. Miscellaneous Gallente regions IIRC.

You are as well asking why amarr space is so big. Its cos the game is made that way. Serpentis are so weak (militarily) they have to hire the angels to protect them ffs (gaurdian angels). Serpentis officers are in fact angels. (I want to know how i can get missions from them in curse but only kill them in fountain). Thay have more regions than bloods or sanshas, who are totally different in all aspects other than damage types. The background has them as far less powerful than the angels or guristas.
You are right that their best space is very focussed in Fountain, but then its probably the best region in the game.

I wonder why they don't direct the money from the angels to expanding more and becoming more powerful. Meh
As for Amarr having so much space, that has an explanation. They expanded rabidly during the Reclaiming, but it had to stop when they got their asses handed to them by the Jovians and the Minmatar rebelled. They still hold much of the space they took.
I don't know the details of Sansha vs Blood loot or salvage, but they'll both give Amarr loot, their faction modules are lasers and armor tanking, they do the same damage types. The only real difference is the Nightmare vs the Bhgallhorn (however you spell it). Nightmare (and other Sansha ships) are shield tanking missile using maurader-esque ships. The Blood ships get web and neut bonuses and use lasers and armor tank. However that is irrellevant to actually killing them. In terms of that, the only noticable difference is that Bloods use nosferatu and Sansha use TD's. --------- Your bad loan management perfectly strikes the stock market, wrecking for -777.68 points. In the backstory, Angels are actually tasked with protecting the Serpentis, so it would not surprise me if the Serpentis fleet was smaller and ergo roamed less space than other pirate factions.
Gameplay wise though the question is valid.

Yeah that was my point, Serpentis provide ****-poor space except for Fountain which is like a money printer for PL & co.
This is in the same area, but the entire western 0.0 is kinda s**ttacular. It's tiny, with mostly NPC sov. And almost nothing important ever happens there. --------- Your bad loan management perfectly strikes the stock market, wrecking for -777.68 points. Eve job list |

Firstly becuase they are a business, not a military group. If you read up on the background of serpentis there is no reason for them to have more space, or indeed to want more. The background of each faction directly relates to how much space they have, whether you mean have sovereignty over or have rats in. Serpentis are a very small faction made up of the serpentis corporation (a business venture) and a smaller sister corporation, serpentis inquest. It would be unreasonable to expect such a minor group to have direct control over large amounts of space. They have a small angel trained + led defence force and thats pretty much it.
You need to look up the nightmare, it hasn't used missiles for a while. The rats still do and armour tank though. They drop the same mods is true, but otherwise there is no relation between the factions and no reason to lump them together unless your question is based entirely around loot.

You changed it while i was typing. From a gameplay point I don't really see what difference it makes how many regions they have to be honest. Unless you have a fetish for sensor booster drops who cares? A far better question (and what i think you are getting at) would be to ask why there are less 0.0 regions in the west than elsewhere, and why those regions are mostly npc sov.

I did bring that up in a reply. I actually wanted to ask about it but forgot while I was making the thread.
They're almost the same though, because adding more serp regions means adding more western space, and it's probably not going to be NPC sov. --------- Your bad loan management perfectly strikes the stock market, wrecking for -777.68 points. Eve job list |

Which is what I think is your problem, they're "small" because they're a comparatively smaller organization than the others, which itself is centered around a drug development corporation, not a cluster-wide criminal organization (Angels) or the diminished forces of a former Empire Faction (Sansha). They've contracted the Angels to protect them so they can concentrate on their production, distribution and sale of delightfully illicit substances - so they're not as expansive territorially.
I think people are too eager to cut out the so-called "roleplay" when trying to make sense of gameplay.

The thing is, in most respsects, they are the same NPC's. The point I'm trying to make is that
1. There is a signifigant lack of western regions
2. there is a lot less serpentis space, making their drops harder to find.
If there is another NPC that uses gallente ships and drop gallente stuff and has drone salvage, then I'll gladly group them with serpentis. Just as if there was another one that dropped missile, shield boosters, and has ward consoles.
