Now that EVE will be sold through the stores again (which is all fine by me, more people is a good thing), I can't help but to wonder if CCP is going to abandon it's current free expansion-policy.
Will current players have to go to a store to buy a the expansion once it hits the stores in march, or will we be able to download it as usual?

They won't because how would you manage the content if not all players had access to it-- especially for RP reasons too.

Yeah, but CCP has a new distribution agreement with Atari, so I thought it was a justified question.
As far as I know, there is no current distribution of EVE in the stores, just old boxes that hasn't been sold yet.

I imagine that free gametime will be inclusive with the retail Eve. If lets say the game sells for ú25-30 that you may get a free 60 day gametime card included.

If they did it would most certainly destroy most of their current player base. Past 5 years has been nothing but free expansions and if they were to suddenly say pay up for new content I can see alot of people just up and leaving. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

Which is why they most likely won't do that. It's just to boost exposure of EVE to the market, which means more pilots ingame. Atari is handling the distribution.

Yeah, I've always thought that this would be a good idea. :D A EVE-box presence on the shelf among with other games will be really good promotion and also open the eyes of alot of people.

Speaking of which, there was somen vague mention (but no promises) that the retail deal would also allow them to put GTCs in stores again as another way to attract (and retain) customers…
Possibly even in Europe.

Precisely, and not as if CCP is ever giving up their IP.

It was worth a good laugh even at launch, I'm sure if I read it today it would be absolutely hilarious. I still have the Prima official eve guide kicking around somewhere too.

If they do that, they better release it as Eve : Quantam Rise, or something besides the core Eve since they will need to get rid of the rating the reviewers gave it 5 years ago.
Otherwise, most people will just tune it out.

I flick through mine every now and then just for a chuckle, and a tearful reminder of what once eve was, and what it could have been. - Violence isn't the answer, it is the question. The answer is yes. |

That sticker would come with your internet subscription because it's not limited to EVE or online games..

think of it as another form of advertising... where better to put an ad for your online game than where guys go to buy their online games?

My question is how much is the box going to cost? $5.99 USD? Or will it be a full MMO price of $60? If so, what about the free client DL? Would new players have to pay for it too? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- RABBLE! RABBLERABBLE!! MMORPG: Many Men Online Role Playing Girls |

Hum I can think of some things that would make a $40 retail games justified.
1) Contains a free 60 day GTC 2) Characters on the account start with an extra 100k-300k or so SPs. 3) Start with some LPs to use to purchase items from the noob corp.
