The first 6 are by CCP and showcase the Walking in Station. The next two demonstrate a lighting technology for WiS.

If anything annoys me, it's people running around as if the sky is falling when they're just going from place to place or navigating a bar. Take a lorazepam and calm down. _______________________________________________ 'The illiterate of this century are not those who cannot read and write; but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.' |

I believe moving walkways were mentioned for going over long distances. Personally, I hate how people in MMOs run everywhere. I personally don't run every moment I get in real life, and making players walk at a normal pace seems to be a good way of adding a little more immersion.

Edited by: Kavin Alavandar on 08/11/2008 23:01:39 Yes, I attended the hands-on demonstration yesterday, and there were moving walkways. They're not actually working just yet, though. At least not when I was playing. I stepped onto one and it just moved under my feet while I stood still. Thats a pity cause all mmos are actually based on slow movement over long distances. Time is money you know.

WoW has flying mounts and flying public transport. Guild Wars has zoning. Blah Blah.
You pay monthly(or bi monthly) not hourly. So your arguement is terrible.

Those look awesome, but somehow I left with the feeling that CCP are using ambulation to test code for an eventual White Wolf "World Of Darkness" production.
On that line of thought, if this is the case, then it can only make EVE ambulation even better -- EVE Mobile Skill Planner V3 !! http://evemsp.sourceforge.net/ |

I see it clearly now. There will be rickshaw¦s all over the place. crewed by chinese isk-farmers, enabling faster transports over long distances for a "small" fee.

So in those games you can get anywhere you want instantly and dont have to walk 30 minutes or even two hours to get to the other end of the world.
And if someone is paid 5 whatever/hour he has to walk to the cashier for his money every hour. Or wait... can he get it later in a bigger sum? No cause then you cannot count how much he gets every hour. Err...
You really dont need a uni degree for this. You pay monthly not hourly... lol.

Actually, WoD is the basis for the code etc, but it would've been done anyway, so it's a perfect tool to bring more content to EVE.

I particularly like the idea of the mini-games within stations, with betting.

Exactly. WoD will only be avatars and as Torfi mentioned, their long term plan for EVE is to create a complete imersive scifi experience. WiS is part of that plan.

Edited by: Tiirae on 09/11/2008 12:10:55 Pure speculation on my part, but...
I fear CCP has found it difficult to balance WiS with the rest of the game. i.e. they can't come up with content/activites for WiS that isn't either really lame, or more fun than Eve itself.
They don't want to cannibalise the space game with this, so I think it's been pushed back another year while they rethink things a bit.
That mini-game I saw on the vid, for example; I can see people not undocking for weeks. That's not good.
edit: They should license Defender from Namco and put working coin-op defender machines in the bars. That would be awesome. And dig-dug for the miners!
