Edited by: Dianabolic on 09/11/2008 13:53:33 Or have I mis-interpreted this change:
Quote: Blueprints can now be unlocked if a vote times out with zero votes. This fix is the result of blueprints getting locked down when the vote is proposed but time elapses with no votes. The same mechanic is now used to unlock blueprints.
From: The patchnotes
So, to clarify, a director in a corp can action an UNLOCK vote, a director that doesn't need or have any shares, and unless we check our mail on a daily basis to SEE the vote, it will AUTOMATICALLY unlock?
Please, please tell me I've misunderstood that, because if I haven't then whoever thought up that change truly needs sectioning.
I can completely understand votes defaulting to LOCK bpo's down (indeed, great change) but defaulting to yes on UNLOCK votes is absolute lunacy :$ Reikoku Diplomatic Forums

I can understand why this change is there based on personal experience. We had a corp and the CEO had all the shares. We put some BPO's into corp hanger and did a successful lockdown vote on them. CEO went AWOL, BPO's were stuck. We disbanded and formed a new corp but still couldn't get the BPO's out of corp hangers. We petitioned but the answer was "Sorry...can't touch them...find your CEO" even though they could verify his account was inactive.
With that said the proposed change is still not the way to handle it and is waaaay to dangerous. If anything if a CEO or primary share hodlers account is inactive THEN allow a successful petition to unlock by the remaining corp members. Don't let anyone just unlock them after a day.
Sidenote - Another line in the notes: Doomsday devices and smartbombs will no longer penetrate the shield of a starbase, even if you have permission to access the POS shields.
Thats gonna ruin some peoples days. My POS - POS Fitting and Fuel Calc

I am the former member of a corp with uncountable billions of locked down BPO's. From reading the patch notes I can only conclude that I would have been able to run off with the BPO's if the CEO or other directors had not been paying attention, had this patch been implemented back then and. This is absolutely appaling!! All corps with BPO's should now be really afraid of their BPO's being stolen and the CEO should always keep a vigilant eye on everything.
This thread shouldn't be in COAD. Farjung is my God

Edited by: Schani Kratnorr on 09/11/2008 14:30:23 I am going to have to side with Dianabolic on this one. The whole point of locking BPOs down in the first place, is to secure them - with this change they would not be secure.
I can see a problem for those with BPOs stuck in the hands of awol CEOs and directors, but this setting "unlock" as default has got to be on the "top-ten dumbest things ever"-list for EVE.
How about this:
Create two seperate vote mechanics. One for locking that allows for standard 24 hours of voting, and one for unlocking. The vote for unlocking could be a week, or at least more than one day...
On the other hand. Why not simply create a petition type specifically for those who have all directors and the ceo verifiably inactive? It would be very easy to do a check before allowing the petition to be created. If all directors/ceo chars are on inactive accounts, a GM could then free the BPOs.
Default: unlock, is just the dumbest solution. You might as well not lock them down at all.
Also: this thread should probably be moved to another section, but then again, chances are higher someone will notice it in here.

Pretty terrible change. I never made anyone a director in my corporation though, just gave them the roles I wanted them to have. Safer that way.

agree with op
I understand the problem with an AWOL CEO but this forces all CEOs to log every single day to check his mails, just in case to keep his mind in peace
the best solution to this problem is to give an extender timer on 0 votes to unlock the prints, lets say 15 days. so if the share owner of the corp doesn't log for 15 days then the print will get unlocked, this makes both sides happy, with any active CEO in command of the corp with a 15 day window if anything happens to him, ie vacations, and directors of the corp with the option to get the print of the corp back in case the CEO is AWOL

This it ridiculous. I havent been playing EVE much for the last few months, but I still have an active account which I might now log on with for a week or more at a time.
I do not want to log on one day and find that the BPO's which my corp has worked for 5 years to collect are suddenly all removed from the hangar.
As it stands, the situation works fine - only corp-owned BPO's get locked down and everybody who wants access to use them has that. The BPO's are the one rock solid foundation my corp has. Forcing them to no longer be present in the corp hangars because of potential security issues spoils it for everyone.
This change cannot be allowed to go through.
