I would say the Top 2 of all time were mo0 and privateers.
Both had an impact on the game to the point game mechanics were changed/added. War Dec nerf/sentry guns added ect ect. |

The fact that m0o are still considered one of the best pirate corps years after they cease to exist is a testament to the effect they had/have on this game.
1)m0o 2)Privateers
Anything past these two is just a popularity contest. Both of these corps inflicted such emotional trauma on carebears that CCP was forced to nerf them out of existence.
Now THAT's hardcore pirating.

1. jokers (jexter was pretty hillarious tbh) 2. space invaders (fun fights) 3. m0o ( lost the advanatage after they stopped being able to exploit game mechanics, still good fighters but just another good pvp corp) 4. tundragons (lifewire, xpohoc o/) 5. celes apoc

m0o def. shouldn't be counted in this list. The only reason people remember them is because they found a way to exploit game mechanics a few times ending up in a majority of them getting banned, thus their name lives in infamy. They weren't all that good at being straight up pirates.
1 - October Snow(mainly because of Ginger) 2 - Snigg 3 - x13(small group but very very deadly back in the day) 4 - Privateers(some might rank them #1 but because the had to use a valid game mechanics and mainly pirated in high-sec they only come in as #4 on my list) 5 - #5 is a toss up between a few MDK, Veto, The United
Honorable Mentions - Beyond Divinity, Mortis
Today's Pirates
1 - The United 2 - Beyond Divinity 3 - Mortis 4 - Filthy Scum 5 - infod
There are a few groups out there that think they are hot **** but tbh aren't really that good unless they are all in RR BSs and have 4-1 odds against you.

Edited by: Alowishus on 21/11/2008 19:23:12 I have a different top five list called 'How to be a "good" pirate corp in CHOAD:'
1) Be m0o (and/or another corp that was awesome in 2004) 2) Get respect from 0.0 alliances by fighting on their terms and losing to them. Under no circumstances must you do anything other than sit there and lose to them. If they drop seventeen cap ships on you and uncloak nine Falcons DO NOT WARP OUT, wait until they kill you so they can congratulate you later in CHOAD by putting you at #3 below m0o and another no longer relevant and/or non-pirate corp. 3) Don't ever gank a 0.0 alliance pilot if you are the superior force. That is not PvP. If you gank a 0.0 alliance pilot you must proceed directly to 0.0 for "real" PvP. Dying before your screen loads is "real" PvP. 4) Actually be a 0.0 corp/alliance that calls themselves pirates. 5) Don't actually participate in piracy!
Kudos to the people who get it and aren't just trying to fellate certain corps or individuals for no reason in specific. |

while i appreciate your sentiments what would you say is the mark of a good pirate corp? sitting in rancer and ganking everything that comes through the gate without ransom?
corps like zombie and m0o are infamous because they cheated and forced ccp to change mechanics, not saying that is good but they will be remembered. what have united done to be worthy of a mention as a top pirate corp? (honest question)

I mean this with all due respect but you don't really know what you're talking about. We try to ransom anything T2 BC and larger on a daily basis. It's our policy. We also don't just camp in Rancer, we bash POSs and go out looking for fights.
What makes a good pirate corp is most likely in the eye of the beholder. Like anything in this game. As a longtime pirate who's been around the block and been with, fought alongside or against some of the more infamous pirate corps in Eve, including m0o, I'm just baffled by some of the selections here. A lot of them actually. It's not that I think these corps aren't good, I don't think they're pirates, no matter what they're trying to roleplay as.
What I've noticed about 0.0 pilots is they think they are the top tier of PvP and they have the ability/right/obligation to judge all others. It's really quite ridiculous. I've done the 0.0 thing and 95% of the kills are equally as mundane and unchallenging as what I'm doing now. Difference is I have no illusions about what I do or where my place is.

I also find it a little condescending that people put m0o and one or two other pirate corps that are long gone and stop there.

To me, saying who's the best and was the best is like comparing Tyson in his prime to Ali in his prime. you really can't do it. Different times, different circumstances weigh a lot in the outcome.

I'd have to say:
1) the united (#1 in kills and points, Obviously they get the number 1 spot).
2) D00M (If I'm not mistaken they dominate the north).
3) Shiva (This is the main corporation I think in the Morsus Mihi alliance, they are always bringing the fight and scream pvp).
4) Veto (I rarely see any news from them but apparently they're well-known? I can't vouch for their skill but their on my list since everyone seems to know them).
5) I dunno who else to put...

I'd throw Filthy Scum or Destrys Lounge in the mix also, both corps like a good fight... if the Scum would stop baiting me with a uber-tanked HIC that is
Probably a ton of others, but I don't get online or outta my lowsec pocket a lot lately ------------
