Hello!
I was trying numerous times to get my EVE client together,
after countless crashes. I've reinstalled, changed settings,
update software, etc. And still, Damned Runtime Error
was taking my game away. I was sure, some time ago,
that Carbon (Engine) implementation will make game unstable.
I was wrong. Launcher was Tne Nemesis to EVE.
I miss complete Off-Line Installers and Off-Line Patches
of old times. I dislike Launcher.
MESSAGE FOR PLAYERS:
*There is a fine line between Patch and Hotfix. Patch brings
major updates, and you can find its "number" easily.
Hotfixes change minor things, but mainly clear very
small bugs and issues, before they will become a problem
*There is a case, which I call "Worst Possible EVE Scenario",
and I'm suffering it for quite some time, and as I can see,
some of you guys too. And I'm dealing it in this way:
- Switching off my Net Connection
- Starting EVE (launcher will not kick off, but game asking
if I want to "Start EVE", and I do)
- Inputing all Login information (Login/Password) as usual
(if I will got "Incompatibile" Error, I know there's new Patch/Hotfix)
- I go for a full Server Status Info on
http://games.chruker.dk/eve_online/server_status.php,which will provide me with "number" of current Build and
time of deploy
- I'm Checking with My Version and Current Version, and I can
download a Patch/Hotfix from CCP database
-
http://cdn1.eveonline.com/558834/EVE_Online_558040-558834_win.zipThis is Link for current Hotfix update, and Adress Structure
(which anyone of you can simply "create" is:
WWW + DATABASE + CURRENT BUILD NUMBER + FILE UPDATE + WIN.ZIP
where FILE UPDATE is a "Your Build Number-Current Build Number)
- If there is no file, I'm trying to use "small steps" and download few
small Build changes and apply them one after another
- To Apply, I unzip Patch/Hotfix file, copy it to '"Launcher" folder,
and Drag&Drop onto "applyPatch" application there
- Restart game witch Net off, then turn Net on, login and play.
*Summary: It's terribly "low-tech" and oldschool way of updating,
but it's 100% sure, and quite easy (I'm simple Hotel guy, not Techie).
Bad thing (or maybe not? :-P ) is that I CANNOT use Launcher
again, because Launcher have its own updates, and as we know,
they will eventually crush, and corrupt whole Client(!). I must
start EVE with Net off, and if I, by accident, start EVE with Net on,
I have to quickly disconnect, preventing Launcher Update.
With some Windows Versions, you will have to Alt+Tab
or Ctrl+Alt+Del, to switch off the Screen, when you Log Off/Quit,
and watch some Errors (cancel them, that's just your Windows
Crybaby Mode). But it's all, which can happen bad to your
"Off-line Account" ;-)
MESSAGE FOR DEVELOPERS:
*EVE is a great game and I'm enjoying it. Level of complexity is
a Pro not a Con. But software changes should be well planned
*We're facing major changes in Operation Systems, with
Windows trying to cut-off the XP, forget Vista, and make
a smooth transition from Win7 to Win8. There is no need
to rush on these changes, and guys, don't try to super-quickly
apply drastic changes, during this "time of eclipse"
*Launcher in EVE is just like in any other game, you wanted
to have Update/Launch/Check/Advertising Tool as a one.
And its not working well. Sorry, but it's true. Of course I can
brag about "old days" and so on, but back then, game was
super-stable, and only thing which could kill my mood,
was Jita Overcrowding, Massive Fleet Fights and some
Video Card Incompatibility
*Please, make this game stable again, and with such
massive files stack, please care about "Offline Options"
*Not all of players have patient to OS re-installation (which is
sometimes the only solution(!), or searching for some crazy
options like mine. That's not really easy way to stay fan.
Something must be done. I've read about Technological Debt
recently, and I think that could be the case (of course I'm not
specialist in this field).
FLY SAFE ALL!
