Im looking to get into some PVP, and with the release of the new patch and all im a bit confused about what classes of ships and what sorts of fittings are still considered good for pvp. Any advice or thoughts on the subject of a good fun ship to fly in pvp would really be appreciated. Thanks ; )

Well. ppl are currently trying to figure out this them self.
Your best bet is to wait a little, keep browsing the forums and bump this thread after the weekend.
I know I will be using the next couple of days trying out different fittings and ships to get the feel of the new patch.
Of course, a little hint as to what race / ships you have the skills to fly would help in answering your question.

Cruisers are always good to start with IMO; they're cheap, versatile, and moderately effective for SP/ISK you invest.
What kind of ship do you think you'd like to fly?

Snipe BS are like zebra's. Only good in large groups, ergo, unless you plan to get into a 0.0 alliance doing fleet combat at some point, they're not all that useful.
Start with frigates and cruisers - you will lose a lot of ships while learning the trade, so keep it cheap. Move on to BC/BS only when you have both the ingame and outgame skills, and the experience. Bigger is NOT better.

BC gangs with logistic and ecm support will be popular after this nerf and very effective so i suggest you train for them.
POST NERF PVP SKILLS: "shall we engage?" "hmmm how many ships do they have?" "more than us" "lets not bother then" "WOW great job FC!!!!" "................. |

It's about what you need - and THEN finding the ships you need to train for.
In the new PVP, there are a set of MUST HAVE mods:
1) MWD (for pure speed) or Afterburner (some speed and missile tanking) 2) Scram. No point trying to fight if they're just going to warp away. 3) Web. No point trying to fight if they're just going to fly away. 4&5) Mods to improve the effectiveness of your weapons post-ner***e. Tracking computers, target painters etc.
So that is a rough core-midslot takeup of about four to five mods.
Obviously, this immediately counts out shield tanking ships as they no longer have space to fit their tank.
So look for good armor tanking ships with four-five midslots.
Ships to train four would be all Amarr laser boats, the Gallente Myrm (it can have a good armor tank and has ample midslots), the Domi as it's primary weapon is drones - freeing up its slots from most weapons-boosting mods...
Blaster boats are a bit of a question mark atm. Short range weapons in the age of nerfed webs make them less attractive than Amarr laser types.
And unless you want to do only one thing - long range sniping - Hybrids are almost as pointless as missiles.
