Patch and expansion equal the same things in the eyes of ccp.
I agree with you.

...new Weapon Grouping Function, new Stargate Models, new Alchemy for producing "rare" T2 Materials, new Missions for all levels, new Certificates, new Award System?
These are not "balancing" or "bugfix" but new stuff.
read the patch logs! :)
You have to pay 25 bucks fnr new content like that for most other online games...

So the speed changes, missile changes and web changes etc AREN'T 'balancing'?
If other games charged for this I dont think they would last all that long.

Edited by: McFly on 12/11/2008 11:52:18 Expansion and Patch are the same thing in eve guys... only difference is new login screen and some changes, It's not really all that common that we get new ships, about once a year or so. I mean revelations I had the Tier II BC and Tier III BS, then the next new ship patch was Trinity about a year later with HICs, EAFs, Black Ops, JFs, and Marauders... but that was a huge patch.
Anyway, RMR was about 7 months before Rev I, I believe. but doesn't really matter, T3 ships are coming in the Spring Expansion. So that will be 'New'... Stackless IO and EVE64, are godsends, I was in a huge fight the other night, with all my effects on, and audio as well (which I've not done in years)... lag was barely noticeable until I cranked up the Bloom and Stencils. That is new, that is what I'm happy we have. Lag isn't gone, but I live on the Westcoast, so just about everytime there's a hiccup on the Node in LA, Chicago, Denver, New York or London, I get DC'd.... Which since the StacklessIO and EVE64 stuff has been done the game has been much much more playable...
Dont ***** about lag today, it's patchday things are always a little funky on patchdays.
Edit Connection Explanation: Eve seems to hold my client better now, if I lag due to a hiccup in one of the SONET Nodes across the US, I tend to stay in the game now, and not DC.

I would say that StacklessIO and Eve64 are worth this expansion alone. The technology driving it and the effect it is having on 'lag' which we all took for granted. Suddenly it's clearing up or simply becoming non existent.
So you won't be able to level a new character to 70. I feel for you, I really do.
CCP are prioritising as they said they would do and how A LOT of the player base have asked them to. To remove or reduce the lag in gameplay would be as good as adding 50 pointless ships to aid your musings. It is nice to see the implementation end of the Need for Speed initative. It will effect everyone in the game in a positive manner, be you in a fleet of 800 or simply missioning in Motsu.

That you are still able to log the next months into a "damn hard to keep stable running" cluster server technology and enjoy a great designed game for loads of fun where not just a couple of super-hero nerds working on ... fed and supported by mum and dad. :-P

best thing is that there is no "hearding" as in, the new areas get congested and become a new economic power.
In other games, the new areas are always overcrowded to the point of exteme lag and the markets always change.
Releasing expansions slow allows people to adapt their marketing and missioning... etc...
Id rather have it this way coming from a game where the next day NOTHING that youve put on market sells due to expansion hoarding all the players to one of the 15 new maps. =----------=

Monthly fees are meant to be used to upkeep the system, pay staff, etc. People should be happy we don't get charged 40$ to buy the new expansion. Hell, if they included the 40$/bi-yearly for expansions into the monthly fee, we'd all be paying roughly 21.50$.
I for one am enjoying my free expansion. It is awesome. - - - Aloriana Jacques - Skill Sheet

Just to clarify: the words "free extension" were not mean for players that know the game but for those that are just starting to play it.
Coincidently, speed enhancements were badly needed. And i would rather get bugs fixed then do what most other games do and give 100 'new'- meaning same old crap that in different colors.

I guess most of us agree that this is a really big step (for speed and lag) and a good step for new content (award & certificate stuff, new missions, alchemy, orca), and it is for free, so i guess the thread starter just didn't read the patch log... (he's complaining about no new missions, but there are new missions, so the "he didn't read it" thing seems quite obvious )
So let's celebrate... yeah right... :)

Your forgetting the major updates to EVE performance for EVE 64 and STACKLESS IO. They formed a bulk of the expansion, but as they were released as early as possible (which makes sense, wld u prefer they waited just for the dates sake? lol).
There are other things like gate changes, certificates, medals, new module thingy, weapon grouping etc.
Though i will agree. it does feel more like a large patch than expansion, due to the lack of major new content, as most changes has been relatively small considering previous expansions. EVE history

I do believe that if CCP gave us an expansion that compared to the blizzard WoW paid expansions, "The Burning Crusade" "Wrath of the Litch King". Then Most real players would be more than happy to pay for it.
Give us more areas, introduce more ships, have expansion only content. Let me see more and more good stuff and I will pay for it. But a bug fix, a ton of nerfs and a few enhancements is by no means adequate. Its merely keeping status quo.

Well the March expansion, with its elaborate new mission system, customsiable T3 ships and wormhole exploration to new, unexplored space will fulfil that for ye then.

LOLLLL OMG THIS IS SO STOOPID ISNT IT. FREE EXPANSION LOL
So what at the very least you didnt pay for anything, and you did get a new ship and some other things to play with. Why does everything have to be content? massive amounts of optimization code is an expansion in my book.
Be happy, more importantly be quiet.

You're wrong. This was the biggest expansion ever, and only one developer has done better (guess who). It's the biggest and bestest you will ever see from CCP. It has so much fail crammed into every kilobit you will have diarrhea out your eyes and DIE, and your corpse will be atomically disintegrated to prevent the FAIL from SPREADING.
My God. It's full of FAIL.
The women in Iceland make the fat American women look slender, also. That could be the source of CCP's fail.

i'd like to return quantum rise tbqh.
Can we have a legacy server for a couple months as we cross train? - In essence, any combat related activity involving damage has been 'speed nerfed' to just take 6 times longer with a predetermined outcome coined balance by CCP. |

Who the hell would pay for an expansion to a game with a subscription? Why is that the fact that an expansion is free is a selling point when people that do not get the expansion CAN NO LONGER PLAY AND THEREFORE WILL NOT SUBSCRIBE?
This just in... My bank allows free deposits!!!
