I call up people and places and add to buddy list. Result player not logged on. The following convo was had in local. If you are not willing to lose your ships be they indies or BS then don't take them out of Empire.

So if the pilot would've went to a safe spot and logged thats legit but logging at the gate and hoping the pilots following you are unable to lock you is cowardly. The current lame practice is to log as soon you jump in, then log back in but stop warp, giving you an insta safespot that, in most cases, is not in line with a celestial object, making safespot finding pretty much impossible. They should really disable stop ship while you are still coming back to the spot you logged at, as well the add bookmark button Won't yell at the guy for logging in an indy I guess, but I'll asume he did the above practice, and its pathetic
