Edited by: Juicy Fruits on 12/11/2008 18:39:21 ok so as an extreme example would you call minority groups where you live some of things ive heard achura called lately?
ok so now the OP:
I had a friend start playing about the time Achura appeared. He asked me to give him a leg up. So he didnt create a character like my main (charisma+ intell/mem -) I went through the options in the character creation section until I had a good recommendation for him. Bear in mind at the time:
Skills needing charisma were pretty much ALL trade related.
Caldari were the most viable way to create income from their combat skills quickly.
Missiles are a good introduction to damage types without getting bogged down in transversal and etc.
Everytime I see one of these "HAHA achura are teh ghey" comments I think "OMG I hope my mate doesnt read that," cause hes gonna be like "why did you do that to me?"
At the time they had the optimal stats for a new player and the trade off was they were butt-ugly.
Please dont compound this by bashing people for creating the best character they could at that time: would you have done anything differently?
thx

When I joined (with no friend to guide me) they had the best stats, though I'd have prolly picked something else if I'd realised what an involved path manufacture and research was (I've never researched anything because of the lab slot shortage). Sometime I've wished I could recycle my SP and start over - I have a Khanid Knight pilot on an alt that I rather like, but why throw away hard-earned SP? The character has served me OK...although it seems my long-term concentration on missile skills is now a liability. Ho hum.
I don't think they're butt-ugly by the way, but then I like Asian people.

Edited by: Rhatar Khurin on 12/11/2008 18:51:04 Surely your friend would've noticed when he got round to choosing an avatar that his character was "uncommonly ugly" and clearly he didn't mind then, so why would he care now?
Anyway, in ambulation you can use plastic surgeons to alter your features radically for a price. So all's well then.
Female achura arnt bad looking, just amazingly plain.

Actually, when I set up this toon it seemed like Achura were the best all-rounders. Mind you I always went for a wizard in Dungeons and Dragons back when I was a kid, so I assumed intelligence would be required for advanced weapons etc.
I don't see the point in bashing 'min-maxers'...I'd been playing for several months (ie: do not want to recycle and lose SP) before I had a full understanding of how all the different stats interacted.

I have char's all over the place. I have a minnie that's Int/Mem high with others low. I have this char that is insanely high in Per/Will. My first char was an even across the board one.
Overall I've found that the even across the board is the best long term solution. That char trains about 200sp/hr less then my 2 specialised ones, but overall it evens out when training skills what needed the opposite set. This char can train most ship/weapon skills at an insanely high rate. But then when I have to train a skill that needs int/mem/char, it takes FOREVER! They balance out.
Char isn't important to new players. But it is down the road when you start getting in to markets, leadership skills and so on. So don't skimp on it.
If you're going for a char that you're only going to train for 6 months, then min/max it. If you're going for a long term multi-year char that is going to be training for years to come, go with an even stats one.

People who pick it for min/maxing reasons deserve instead of picking a race because they like the race.
I picked my race and bloodline having no real knowledge of stats, why they did, etc and just thought Gallente were cool. Guess what? I'm fine with that about a year later. I could use a little higher willpower and a little lower charisma, but I don't don't hate my character or her appearance and I think that's far more important.

Except for the diehard contrary bastards like me who will never train Cadari or consider one as a toon, precisely beacue they're so damned popular.
When starting this toon, my main and at pretty much the inception of the new races, I deliberately looked for the least populated region of space for my timezone.

Main - Khanid Cyber Knight. Mission-runner, couldn't refine/mfr/research an ice cube.
Alt - Achura Mining/MFR/Production. Couldn't run a level 2 w/o having to warp in a half-dozen times.
Alt - Minmatar Trade/Exploration. Can't do either of the above, but working on his specialties.
It won't take long for the Achura to adapt or retrain, refitting a Raven/CNR is not difficult and will achieve almost the same results as before QR.
Will be interesting to see how the players with Achura mains evolve and adapt. If anything, they'll be more versatile and cunning, that's for sure.

1. It's a game. Saying mean things about imaginary races isn't racist.
2. So the rest of your argument is a personal story about how you feel guilty cause you told your friend to pick Achura. Well guess what, it's not a valid argument, and people aren't gonna change their actions just because you can't take a little hostility.
Take responsibility for your action (telling your friend to pick achura) and accept the consequences (people make fun of your friend and he passes the favor along). -- Distortion| Distortion 2 Preview |

II made a Caldari with the rest of the group I joined EVE with. Made it easier for us to get our bearings in a very different game than we'd been in before. I still went black sheep on the bunch, Deteis gunner specialist and now carrier pilot. I still only have Torpedoes I. In the event of an emergency, my ego may be used as a floatation device.

Edited by: Darth Vaders on 12/11/2008 20:07:21 When i started the game i went to create an Archura myself because all the internet guides suggested that this bloodline had the best all around stats.
But after i saw the avatar i decided to make a Deteis because within minutes i realised i just couldn't live with such an ugly avatar no matter what super stats he may had.
From personal experience Archuras are the favored race of macro farmers. Of course that doesn't mean that all Archuras are macro farmers but fact is that i tend to be more sceptical when i see an Archura let alone that also from personal experience the most annoying people i met in game were Archura
Just my 2 cents... |

We don't all have 3 charisma and mindlessly spew Cruise missiles at Spider Drone mission rats you know. Some of us do actually have a few other strings to our bow. I'd imagine there's a good number of Achura out there who, like me, selected thier race and bloodline without even realising that at the time we were FOTM.
I stopped flying missile boats after I reached around 3 million SP. Did I see missile nerfs coming?, no, I just found spewing globs of missiles at mission rats terminally boring and no challenge what so ever. Being Achura doesn't prevent you training any non-traditional Caldari skills, so if you really feel your boring, ugly and one-dimensional Ravens/Drakes are now beyond useless you could actually you know, heaven forbid, train something else?
Yeah, maybe people should lay off Achura a bit, but there's a healthy proportion of them that just ask for it frankly.
