I think we can all agree here that there is a very, very big difference between heavy drones and fighters, in size and price.
Here's my idea.
Assault drones. These drones essentially bridge that gap. They would be stronger than heavy attack drones, but far weaker, smaller and cheaper. Maybe with a base price of 1-2 million ISK. Also, to compliment it, what about a smaller version of the carrier?
And then here's my other idea: Drone modifications. When you buy a drone, they would have to come equipped with the basic stuff. But, with the introduction of a new skill (drone modifications) you could change what weapons and such drones have.
What do you think?

They already exist.
Vexors, Myrmidons, and Domis.
Vexors & Myrms turn medium drones into heavy drones, and Domis turn heavy drones into medium fighters.

Okay, so the assault drones/small carriers are redundant. But what about drone modifications?

Why do you care? Can you even use heavies yet?
Or battleships, because you know if we get mini-carriers Battleships are going to be a stepping stone.
Get nommed by an ishtar and then tell me you want bigger drones.
The modifying the does sound interesting though.

I can use heavies. It's just that with my Nexor I can only use three at a time. I've been using five mediums for the time being until I get my Myrmidon.

Hate to break it to you but the myrm can only field 3 heavies as well, though it has space for 6

aye thats a shame too, what you want is a dominix or a ishtar. domi is easier to get into though.
