Hello...
Allways wanted to check this out, but never had chance in real life as for me it is pretty expensive experiment if it fails.
So question is... has vampirized thorax 4x vampires +1 energy destroyer (the device which kills enemy cap using your own cap) with drones as killing machine has any chances against PVP ofcourse except Minmatar projectile guns which work without cap!
4x Nosferatu + Med Energy Destab = 60*4+150 = 390cap each 12 seconds, that means most of cruisers dried out at 36 seconds which basically shuts down any cruiser except Minmatars!
Is it realistic? I count that you will have spare 90cap each 12 seconds... where to put that cap if it even can work?

Energy Vampires were broken some time ago, they now only work if you have less % energy than your target. This makes them unreliable. Simply neuting your enemy is more effective in most cases.
Now, if you run a very very capacitor heavy ship and you can use all the power you pull from the enemy to do actual damage, well, that's a possibly different story.
In essence, putting Nosferatus on ships and hoping they will have any positive effect on combat at all for you is wishful thinking unless you have a really strange or really poor PVP setup. Use cap boosters to feed your own capacitor, and put a weapon where that nos was.
Well, I've said my piece - wait, is that Veldspar over there? Woot! |

Ohhh that is bad... so vamps actually are not vamps but kind a harmony devices! Stupid!
Then ok, then I don't go there! Then will use normal Thorax as all ppl do!
BTW then other question, I have never seen railgun-mounted thoraxes? Why that? Sniper Thorax is something unrealistic? Use that MWD for distance keeping not for closing!

Err, why would you ever want to do this? If you're relying on drones for your damage, why wouldn't you use a drone boat like the Vexor or Myrmidon? Or Arbitrator, if you want to train Amarr skills? ----------- Blaster sig removed for now, pending those "changes we've been working on all day". CCP, don't screw this up.

i think there are setups worth trying out on the rax that are out of the norm, after all flexibility and adaptation is something we are all gonna have to do in QR.
id be interested to see how this setup might work in small gang pvp:
lows: 1600rt plate DCU2 energized kin 2 energized therm 2 energized reactive 2
mids: 10mn AB2 med cap booster/800's warp scrambler 2
highs: 1 med t2 neut 4 small t2 neut
drones: 5 HH2
sucks 52 cap per second 29k ehp buffer
doesnt do big dps but would render most cruisers with no rep ability, and render invulns useless after a few cycles.
might be total crap, dunno, but worth trying out.

Not stupid. Nos are still usable. Use them in harmony with other neutralizers. Neut one guy, nosferatu another.

lol, yeah. Raxes are great blasterboats, and drone bonused ships are usually relegated to this role...
The NosDomi is the traditional version of this role. Load the highslots with energy draining nos and coupled with loads of drones, the NosDomi was a nearly impenetrable powerhouse with a LOT of cap and a huge tank, while dishing out rather decent DPS. It has now been moved to a support role in fleets that still use them.

Sniping does little damage with the ammo that uses it best (Spike) and switching to the short range version (Javelin) not only takes 10 seconds, but has a horrible tracking penalty so you are better off using blasters and getting in close.

vampire ships work really well, thorax is not usually considered one of them
mix of neuts and NOSes, or just neuts and a bunch of cap boosters in middle. passive tank (duh).
you might have better luck with drone boats though: vexor, myrm, domi, ishkur (lol, vampire ishkur), and ishtar |

One of our corp buddies swears by his Thorax+Rail set up; less DPS than blasters but you can start dishing it out immediately (rather than wasting time getting close) plus it seems to render you a less obvious target - our FW enemies appear to focus fire on the ships closest to them.
Have no personal experience but kill stats suggest he might be on to something; his set-up is often at or near the top of all cruiser damage, so he must be doing something right. |
