Well the only reason I can think of removing this from the game is that CCP dont want us to see that preformance has dropped Considerably after the Expansion ( which in reality is a badly written patch ).
Proof only a few days after the release the server crashed .. very badly.
http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=909207
More recent issues http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=927572
These are not the only examples .. this has gone on, and on ..
Of course the tool to monitor Latency has been removed.
See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil .. does that mean there is no evil ? No it doesnt the tools we use have been removed and we cant see it .. but its there .. we experience it when we are disconnected or lag out and are disconnected from the game.
Bring the tool back please, and if you don't want us to have it .. is it because you have something to hide ?! God forbid .. tell us this isn't so and bring the tool back .. secrecy is not good it is bad, it means there is something you dont want people to see .. transparency is good .. this is the only real way to assure people that all is good and you can prove it to them by not hiding things.

Good they removed this tool, at least there will be less whiners misinterpretting what it shows.
Clearly you don't know what you're on about...
Since when have you (or anyone) seen a whining thread along the lines of "The performance tool thingy in game said this but that happened and i want my stuff back waaaah"?
Are you saying there's no memory leak now? Like, the client is supposed to use upwards of 1.2 GB after an hour or so of active time? It's supposed to horrendously lag, even after the huge decrease in lag pre-QR patch, but after Stackless IO implementation.
The QR client has got some bugs and leaks, and while I must say I prefer this to the boot.ini fiasco a while back, its still pretty bad, compared to pre-patch quality.
Is there a valid reason why this tool was removed, or is CCP deliberatly (sp >_<) making it seem like the tool was being used for an exploit of some sort, or worse, stopping the resourceful players who used it intelligently from being able to debunk the whole "Our servers show no signs of lag, go whine somewhere else"?

I too miss this tool, and was the first thing i tried to use when I saw my client using almost 1 gig of ram. But its gone of course.
Has CCP lost it mind. This whole QR things has been a horrible experience. Every night I log on I only find more depressing things happening.
But then again, they just announced they have partnered with ATARI, and will release the next FUBAR expansion on March 10th !!! So they can replace the current clients that will be closing all their accounts.

As blue asked the question: What it told you that you use it for? Answer: Nothing. You have no real clue how use infos that it provides.

You mix apples with pears and apparently have no clue about software design and possible issues.
Stackless IO and cache are two different things. If you allow you client have big cache, why he should not take 1.2GB for all stuff he wants to when memory is here? Since when _amount_ of an allocated memory has anything to do with network stack on your or server side? You have apparently no ideas about operating system internals, memory allocation strategies--aggresive one, lazy one etc., you do not know what client does at all.
You are last person on the world who will ever be able to find out there is memory leak. That is what developers do when they test client with memory leaks detectors running. You have no idea what in black box named "EVE client" happens. You can make your false claims you do, but they stay just false claims of somebody without clue.

The reason we removed the monitor was that it's an unsupported feature in the game and it had severe performance issues and potential security concerns. Basically, instead of putting the development effort into fixing it we decided to pretty much discontinue it since it appeared to us to be causing more problems for the players than it solved and it's not used much internally.
Since this is something people really want to keep then we're fine with enabling it again. We've now removed the naughty bits from it and it will be included again in QR 1.0.1 with the usual enter-at-your-own-risk disclaimer.

The lag is nowhere as bad as it was before the stackless IO thingy it just seems to be more random.
eg.1 - 3 Days ago. Pew pew in a 200 man fleet in 0.0 against another 200 man fleet was flawless. All modules activated correctly and warping around was smooth with no time travel.
eg.1 - 2 Days ago. Again 200 man fleet vs about 250. Hostiles jump into the system into out fleet, BS at ~200km correctly locked primaries but could not shoot. Our support could not shoot at the dictors approaching our fleet and we all had to warp off :( All the time the enemy could shoot us. It took me a few tries time warping to escape the gate but at least i got my drones back in lol strange lag.
PS its not my PC.... it can play Crysis

I must say, that I am mildly surprized at CCP's response, to be honest, more than mildly surprized, I'm very surprized ! ( and in a good way )
To clean this tool up, and put it back is commendable, and what we have been asking for. Even if this Tool has really no other use than just monitor the response time, it is usefull, as we can gauge information and see more clearly what is happening.
Even if we cannot influence things, on the CCP's side of things, this tool is helpful and informative to us players.
We might not use it often .. but when we do .. it is important.
Im glad you guys did this, and put the tool back in place.
Thank you for this.

Does CCP even have a QA team (That would be QUALITY ASSURANCE), or do you just do a little programming and then send it out?
I'lol'd. Just what I was thinking but didn't want to say because it seemed to harsh. :D
QA is pretty useful. Again I'd advocate for revamping the test server to allow for better and more complete testing: which in my opinion, due to the nature of Eve, means allowing for all skills to be trained instantly or already given so everyone can help test things.
Edit: mmmmmm Beer....
If I send some beer in a carepackage to Iceland, can we get some server fixes for the client side lag? :p |

If you guys stop bit.hing for once and look QA can only do so much on the test server with a few people on it playing around.
For real testing they will need a server with about 300 to 500 people on it in order to find all the bugs. Even then still will miss some.
QA did a find good job cutting all the little bugs that will drive people nuts and the fleet fight issue will be fixed soon if you care to read post that doesn't have some 11 year old crying because they took out a completely unneeded tool.
Show your FPS will not change your FPS, it will not make you uber when you are sitting in a station getting 150 of them.
It proves nothing but a wast of system resources that could eat us a few frames.. (in a fleet fight a few frames per sec could mean winning or leasing... |

I noticed the monitor missing after QR as well, and while I never used it much, I was kind of miffed about finding it missing. (Especially when the clients started memory leaking.)
Kudos to putting it back in.
