Edited by: Cibo Seidensha on 14/11/2008 19:04:17 Edited by: Cibo Seidensha on 14/11/2008 19:01:49 Today I did an unknown-site called "Provisional Sansha Hideout" which escalated into a chain called "Sansha Surveillance Team".
The initial plex is filled up with a lot of frigs and bad loot (I had 4 of them in the last days and got nothing from any of them).
But this time I get an escalation.. So part 2-4 basicly have you jumping into single room plexes, where you see a group of cruisers warp off and have to fight another group + kill a "security center" to continue. In front of every gate you meet one faction cruiser, which drops faction loot. For me, this was 1 low grade slave alpha, 1 low grade slave beta, 1 true sansha focused beam laser. Thats quite a good loot for my standards.
So I get to part 5. I have to compliment CCP here, this is really a great battle. You have a base of some sorts with a station in it. Shooting the station will result a group of heavy missle sentrys spawning and the station releasing a number (8?) of smart bomb attacks, which hit you at about 1k-3k damage each (not sure here, as they hit me while fighting other rats). Anyway, this really put my tank to the test and then afterwards, you need to take the station down and every 10% of armor hp or so, it spawns another wave of cruisers. Nothing really hard, but it is a nice battle. That + the fact that I had to travel deep into unknown lowsec was thrilling. Then at the end, finally the big boss spawns (the one I've been chasing around over 30 jumps through hostile low sec). I kill him and... he drops a sansha bronze tag.
That's it. End of the story.
So, I can't complain here really. I got an escalation, I got nice loot on the way and if I found all that loot in the last stage, I would've been happy. But the way it went.. this was so anticlimactic. A final bossfight in a finalstage of a long campaign should drop SOMETHING. Even if its crap.
And thats the point of this thread: CCP please put some work into loot formulas and make sure that more work pays out in more loot (or at least some loot).

I'm afraid thats the nature of the profession you chose, exploration involves a lot of luck for me thats what makes it interesting I've had a similar situation to urs before. For me thats what makes exploration interesting the constant hope for the jackpot find. The way i see it loot formulas are fine bigger stuff has a bigger chance to drop nicer loot i dont think the chance element should be taken away or else it just becomes more predictable and more like mission running... ugh.

Exactly. Exploration wouldn't really be "exploring" if you knew what you were gonna get each time. Id be happy for the low grades. That sounds like a fun escalation. If it makes you feel better, I did a 7/10 Angel plex last week and got nothing but overseer effects :)

That's the way exploration works. Last night I had an expedition take me into hostile 0.0. About 3 hours and 46M in bounties later the named BS spawns, and drops... jack all. Other times I've been in friendly space, and seen 700M in loot drop.
Keep at it, you'll hit a jackpot sooner or later.

No No No. Do not "make sure that more work pays out in more loot".
-here comes the wow part- go play EQ or WoW for your desired style of reward mechanics.
Honestly, you should be podded for making that statement.

Getting jack all is a chance. There was likely also a chance to drop some high grade plants also. |

I did not get "Jack all", I did get some decent loot. Just not where it wouldve been expected. I dont say "I want more loot", or "I want loot for sure", just that if I do get loot, it should be better distributed which would enhance the exploration experience a lot.
To get this, the whole exploration chain would have to be better formed out and loot, encounters and events precalculated accordingly, instead of 5 chained instances that are randomized on spawning (apparently) with no connection to each other.
Right now, the only part of doing the actual exploration that is random, is the loot. Instead the action itself should be random. If you do see a certain boss, you should know, youre on to something. The random part being, whether you find him or not, instead of that you find him every single time, but sometimes there is no loot.

Edited by: FlameGlow on 16/11/2008 18:04:21 So boss didn't drop anything good this time, your point is? It probably drops centii A or centum C when lucky, you didn't get lucky this time |
