I was inspecting the details on the impairor frigate, and I found a strange piece of text that looks like latin. From what I can tell it says something along the lines of;
Donec vivirra sodalis Donec dapibus lorem ut
I try translating it to english from latin in google translate but it doesn't make any sense.
We vivirra member Until the company to that
Anyone that knows latin able to decipher it?

The words are taken from Lorem Ipsum, a garbled mess of latin words used to fill space with random text in the printing and publishing industries. They don't mean anything really. |

Until the vivaterra are members of Until the company to be
vivaterra? Viva terra
Viva (long live) terra (earth, terrans)
"until the company to be"
its an amarrian ship, could refer to god.
"until the long lived terrans are apart of god"

Do the customs offices have the same exact phrase?
It's been years since I've actually studied Latin and I always had a loose grasp on the specifics of the grammar but near as I can figure the lines do translate, and they make a good deal of sense on an Amarrian hull. Of course, as I said, my grasp of the grammar across all the declensions and conjugations is shaky at best.
Donec vivirra sodalis As long as those fellows are full of life Donec dapibus lorem ut Is how long they will serve the slave-driver

All the Merlin hulls have a similar piece of text on one of the engines.
http://imgur.com/a/5i42S
I'm unable to figure out what it actually says beyond the first line, 'donec viverra sodalus', which means 'until you make changes' according to Google Translate.
It might be easier to read on one of the other Merlin hulls, but I only have one available to zoom in on. |

I am guessing like many things today. Latin is thrown in places to look cool and not make sense. Since creators of things know its a pretty dead language in day to day life, it is used when something needs to sound interesting. Such as the names in brackets in Road Runner cartoons (Eatus Birdus) for Wile E Coyote. EVE is like swimming on a beach in shark infested waters,-á There is however a catch...-á The EVE Beach you also have to wonder which fellow swimmer will try and eat you before the sharks. |

The nice thing about, Lorem Ipsum is that it's not just random text (not that anyone's saying that). It's snippets from de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum sec.1.10.32 -1.10.33 of 'The Extremes of Good and Evil' by Cicero, written in 45 BC - which is crammed full of significance.
The trick would be to tie it into eve lore, yummy! |
